Because we have to stop somewhere and another place begins and the place where we stop is ours and the place where the other place starts is there. The phrase 'our bourder' refers to the edge and everything close to it.

Think about it this way. Rome had a border. What would you call their border? Rome's border. What else would you call it? Rome had a lot of border so it wouldn't make sense to specify the different countries sharing that border.
