Well I've been cold turkey with my new diet for 2 weeks now, but it wasn't easy getting here. Everyday at school people are eating domino's pizza and the best fries ever from the cafeteria and at home their is chips and other breads and junk in their. And I was looking at a papa john's pizza ad this morning and pizza is my favorite food and it looked so DELICIOUS! I know I may sound weird, but I really want to stick to my diet and I've been strong with resisting bad temptations for two whole weeks and the only thing in my mind that keeps me strong is going to the mall to buy clothes that can actually fit me and having better confidence because I am thin! I want that more than anything I could ever ask for , it's a dream! I do eat salad and soup and granola bars and fruits everyday and I can already see tiny results. How can help myself get stronger on getting to my goal and not quitting!

Thanks so much!

Congrats on sticking with your diet for 2 weeks! You are on your way already...but I do have a couple of suggestions for you. First of all, get rid of the temptations you have as much as possible. I don't know who you live with, but if you can get rid of the junk food or at least keep it out of view it will be much easier to avoid. Another way to keep your mind off of food is to do something fun to keep yourself occupied. Instead of watching TV or something, try taking a walk, calling a friend, doing your nails or whatever you enjoy that takes a while so you aren't so focused on food. Also, it sounds like you are trying to eat healthy, but make sure you are eating enough! I know that sounds silly, but if you starve yourself, you will be more likely to fail on your diet and regain any weight you might lose. Eat more of the healthy foods and don't completely deprive yourself. Try eating one of your favorite foods once a week and the rest of the week stick to your diet so you have something to look forward to. Hope this helps and good luck with your diet!

Well, the hardest thing about a diet is not being able to eat the things you love. Statistics show that most diets that restrict you from eating such foods wont last long. And while it would be nice to lose weight quick, the more reasonable solution is to eat what you love but within reason. That way you can learn to eat healthy for life. Its ok to indulge every now and then. I love a yummy Rt 44 Cherry Coke from Sonic, but 2 months ago I quit drinking sodas. I hadnt touched a soda and I decided to go get me one the other day. And in another month or so I might have one again. Eat healthy all day, high protein diets are the best. For dinner eat a slice of pizza and a salad!!
OH and drink a TON of water

Take a tip from bodybuilders and professional athletes: Allow yourself one "cheat meal" every week where you can eat or drink whatever you want -- as long as you don't gorge yourself. Your diet won't suffer for it (Nellie's assertion that one cheat will set you back an entire week is entirely wrong), and it'll make sticking to your healthier eating plan easier because you don't have to completely give up everything that you love.

Here's another tip: Ask yourself "Who is in charge -- me or the food?" Every time you give in to temptation and eat junk you're literally worshipping food. Yes, food is essential for life, but you don't have to bow down to it and let your cravings for food run your life. Before you can become physically fit and strong, you have to become mentally fit and strong. The first step toward that is deciding that YOU are in charge and that YOU control what goes into your body and that you are NOT going to give in to temptation. Again, it's easier to do this if you allow yourself that "cheat meal," but the trick is mind over marshmallow cremes.

You have done remarkably well so far, so pat yourself on the back for that and realize you DO have the strength to reach your goal. Keep telling yourself that you are stronger than Papa John's Pizza. Losing weight and getting in shape takes time and effort, but you're worth it, right?

I am addicted to knitting. It used to be soothing and something to occupy my hands. Now, I am unhappy if I am not stitching something. I get irritable if I have to go more than 2 or 3 hours without working on one of my many knit or crochet projects. If I'm not throwing the yarn over some kind of hook or needle, I'm picking at my fingernails or eating my cuticles. It's gotten to the point where my entire house is engulfed with yarn and stitching supplies, knitting machines, books, dyes and containers for knitting. I think I've knitted all my friends at least a dishcloth, and people have begun ordering their favorite colors and offering to pay to get custom work. This sounds like a minor issue, but there are people at work who think I'm strange because I knit on my breaks and look up knitting patterns on the computer. Since knitting gives me inner peace, and I'm getting really good at it, I'm not having any hope that I'll find a way out of this.I think it is truly an obsessive addiction, because I can't think of a day I haven't knitted since I started a year and a half ago.

I'm on a very strict diet, so I struggle with this as well. Not only pizza and the like, but normal things like potatoes, cheeses, and milk. What keeps me going is knowing that just one "cheat" can set me back an entire week. Is another whole week of dieting worth a piece of pizza (or a piece of cheese?) I'd rather get to my goal and eat these things in moderation, than splurge now and regret it later.

Depending on your diet, a piece of pizza may not set you back. But, if you're like me, one piece of pizza turns into 2... with a bag of twizzlers... and a bar of chocolate... and that's where I fall off the wagon completely.

Good luck!

Your body will grow accustomed to healthier foods and over time you will find that you are actually craving the good stuff. Stay strong. If you feel hungry, make yourself a cup of green tea. Hot liquids will help you keep hunger under control.

try to find a diet buddy. you can help each other to fight temptation. i'm a sucker for pizza too. my advise to you is to make your own pizza. you can actually buy a pre-made whole wheat pizza crust just add tomato sauce, minced garlic, red bell pepper and toast it. just stay away from the sinful toppings.or creat your own healthy gourmet sandwiches. check out Dr. OZ website

i know how you feel. when it comes to these withdrawals i have to eat some chocolate, pizza, etc. but control the portions. (which is the hard part). i try to buy single serving prepackaged things, that way i know how many calories and what not i am eating. now for pizza, i dont know if you have a schwan's delivery truck in your area, but they have great personal size pizzas that are very good, and low fat! but you can find them online at http://www.schwans.com/ good luck!

i HAVE been where you are!!! i used to weigh 230, now 145. the only thing i can tell you is when you see that picture of that Papa John's, tell yourself..."eeeewwww, gross, all that greasy cheese, greasy pepporoni..." you get the idea. my downfall was sweets, and i would just think and try to play in my mind how full and fat i would feel if i ate some. it's all in your mind, hunny. it's sounds like you are doing GREAT, so you just stick to it and think about how good it's going to feel to pull the size (?--you fill in your desired size) off the rack and how GOOD you are going to look in it!!!!

Go to the mall and buy a pair of pants that are the size that you hope to be. Let your goal be to fit into that pair of pants. Try them on weekly to continue the motivation.
