Pray. Ask Him to come into your life, to lead, guide, and direct your path. I am not Catholic, but am a non-denominational Christian, but will recommend reading the New King James Version of the Holy Bible, starting with the new testament. If you would like to remain a Catholic, and are going through some trying situations, I encourage you to still pray, and surround yourself with members of your church, or talking to your priest about your doubts and fears. We all have our faith tested, and at times think He has turned His back, or left us. Remember: We are His children, even the hairs on our head are numbered, He will NEVER leave us, nor forsake us, turn your yoke over to Him, and take upon His, for His is light and easy. Be blessed, friend.

No one ever has total faith - that may be an unattainable goal. Doubting is human, and I think ultimately makes faith stronger. There is no set formula. I believe every journey to God is different. As a Catholic, my most powerful moment came while I was attending the Stations of the Cross. It just hit me - Jesus did this for me, too. It happened almost 20 years ago and I can still remember it like yesterday. My suggestion: read the New American Bible and try to understand how what is written applies to you.

Finally, pray to God for help. If you relax and open up to Him, he will be right there!

Hope that helps - just my humble advice.

The only way you can have total faith in God is if you trust in him completely for everything that doesnt mean lay around and do nothing but if you believe..

Luke 12

22Then Jesus said to his disciples: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. 24Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! 25Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[b]? 26Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?
27"Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 28If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! 29And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. 30For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. 31But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.
32"Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. 33Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will not be exhausted, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. 34For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
(NIV)

You have to believe he can get you through anything, like my parents are divorcing and for the first 6 or so months i didnt trust God could get me through this i trusted my own angry unfeeling self and in the end i hurt my self because theres no way im gonna get those months back so i can change them and be happy but God taught me to trust him with my whole life and he will bless it like he did Jobs' life.

I was a believing Catholic at one time, too.
But fortunately, with study and curiosity, and a willingness to challenge myself, the emptiness of faith just dissolved (slowly). I feel much, much better now. And I know so much more about the bible and Christianity and history (not to mention science) that I have no trouble whatsoever choosing to not believe in god, or heaven, or hell.
Not believing is not the end of the world. It's only the end of an illusion.

I know you will get alot of garbage answers here (editted: and some good ones!) and you shouldn't trust any... even mine. It is yours to search for but there are some authors I would recommend such as Henry Drummond, C.S. Lewis and Billy Graham.

As for me I've had my dark times and when I look at what God has done in my life etc. I run back. There are just too many things that he has touched in my life. Maybe looking back at what he has done and the strenght he gave in times of need is a good start.

God Bless
Todd

P.S. www.oneplace.com has many good preachers to listen to and that Christianity hasn't been tried and found lacking only found hard and abandoned or not tried!!

Matthew 9:2
Some men brought to him a paralytic, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven."

Matthew 9:20-22
20Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. 21She said to herself, "If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed."

22Jesus turned and saw her. "Take heart, daughter," he said, "your faith has healed you." And the woman was healed from that moment.

Matthew 9:18-19, 23-26
18While he was saying this, a ruler came and knelt before him and said, "My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live." 19Jesus got up and went with him, and so did his disciples.
23When Jesus entered the ruler's house and saw the flute players and the noisy crowd, 24he said, "Go away. The girl is not dead but asleep." But they laughed at him. 25After the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took the girl by the hand, and she got up. 26News of this spread through all that region.

Matthew 14:31
Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?"

Matthew 21:21
Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done.

If you still have little faith pray for faith. Note: God will not just give you faith, but He will give you oppertunities to be faithful.

I think a little bit of doubt is okay. Even a little bit of skepticism. It shows you've thought about it for yourself, that you don't just accept the beliefs you're told you are supposed to have. I think that's a good thing!

Did you read what recently came out about Mother Teresa? She said she often doubted that God was there, she said she couldn't 'feel' him. It didn't stop her from working hard, from believing in her cause. She might even be made a saint, and how many saints do you know who openly stated their doubts!

I think God wants us all to think for ourselves. Much of theology is man-made, especially in the Roman Catholic Church.

Don't be afraid to question anything, whether it be god, your government, your boss' decision making abilities, etc. Form your own opinions and beliefs no matter what. Why are you a catholic? Is it because your parents are?

Religion is an antiquated form of reasoning for the unknown. It's time to take a look at the facts, they aren't hidden anymore.

Dear Friends ...Here are some research findings...of Some Spiritual Scientists

1) God / Almighty / Allah / Alleluya - Has made Man ( Adam) and Hence ( Eve) -by HIS SPIRIT ....So
what does this mean ..
this means that God resides in every child born to Adam and Eve ...God resides in the spirit of every Human

We may not know of it but God lives in Our Soul and Our Spiritual Consciousness

2) We are Living Musjids and Temples and Churches ....God ...resides in us
we ahve to realise Him

3) Non-realisation fo God within us -is the biggest SIN and biggest cause of all our sufferings.

4) We are all basically of two categories -one category -the EVIL RAKSHASAS - or the SHAITHANS
Second category -the Gods

5)We are all infact Gods and Goddesses
and Almighty does reside in us all -we may know it not and even if we know -we do not feel it always

6) There are Thousands of Brahmas ( creators ) , thousands of Vishnus ( sustainers) , Shivas ( distroyers )

we are all the Gods....
and ALMIGHTY Resides in us all...but we know not ...we realise not

7) Holy Spirit - is nothing but the Consciousness of our Soul -about the Divine Soul with the Presence of Aleluya / Allah / GOD

8) Holy spirit - is evident and experienced by Millions ...befoire Christ has come and Holy spirit is realised by Millions -Hindus , Muslims , Christians and even non-belivers or even ignorant ones....

9) Every thing in this universe in Made of GOD consciousness -every thing is Divine ...but we know not about it....

10) Every thing that is happening in this world is by the will of GOD -So let us accept it -behind every suffering of ours -there is a reason -which we know not

11)
The real name of Jesus - is ISA
lot of names in Bibles are changed -Jakob is made in John and many other names are changed to sound English

12) Jesus / Isa -said - Iam the chid of my father who resides in Heaven

Yes it is true ....We are all the Children of God

These are some brief inputs ....
May God ensure that i have not written anything wrong ...and may you all see only the true spirit of what i want to say and do not get carried away by new words and phrases

God bless all of us

i am what i call a non-denominational Christian. i, too, have my doubts that God is real, but when i realize how far i have gone in life and the miracles in my life, i can only credit Him for it.
i've had asthma for 15 going on 16 years. during the attacks, i (obviously) couldn't breathe but prayed that i could breathe and live....each time i prayed, my attacks stopped and survived.
that was always a reminder for me that God exists. i can't tell you how to stop your doubts because that is between you and God. maybe you should pray that He shows you how NOT to doubt
