Alright, so Im an American, and I just wanted to know about a word, that I think is from Britain. The word is wanker. Im sure alot of you know what it means, and I just wanted to be part of that crowd who can call someone a wanker and laugh.

Literally it means someone that masturbates. However, it's also used to mean prat, idiot, plonker, **** and lots of other words that may be recognised in Am. Eng. - I'm sure you have equivalents.

Strictly speaking wanking is a colloquial term for masturbating, but the term wanker has become just a derogatory term. The tone of voice used determines if it is meant harshly or in fun.

The literal meaning is someone who ma**!**bates, usually male. It is usually used to describe a stupid, silly person, or said to someone who does something stupid.

Concise Oxford Dictionary says: Usually considered a Taboo word ; 1 a contemptible or ineffectual person ,2 someone wwho masturbates.
