Where does the language Afrikaans come from?

I don't know if I spelled it right...it's either Africaans or Afrikaans. Where does the language come from?

Afrikaans is a germanic language and isn't actually some may argue a native language of South Africa and neither is English. The languages where brought there by Dutch and English troops during conquests. Before English arrived Afrikaans became the dominant tongue and is still more dominant than english in the Country in this day and age . Although Zulu has a larger number of Native Speakers. Afrikaans has borrowed many word's from other languages such as German and English in particular and also The native languages of S.A.

But English has borrowed many words from Afrikaans one notable one is Trekk. That is an Afrikaans word which was taken into English,

Voortrekker is a monument to the voortrekkers who were heading into the Transvaal to find safer lands because the English were invading the Cape.

Ek kaan afrikaans pratt maar dit is my tweerigting taal. Afrikaans is baie lekker en ek hou van dit.

Ek is Wallieser en ek praat die Wallis taal.

Cakes, as you might remember from my DELETED New Years question/wishes i'm up in arms with the whole "regulation"? of YA. I must admit i haven't yet taken the time to study the fine print of everything connected to Yahoo and also have a problem with outgoing mail.(Have to work and earn some money as well from time to time) but there's quite a few inconsistencies that doesn't make sense. What i hope to do is get a kind of petition going with as many subscribers as possible from around he globe and present our case to the top bras of Yahoo.That is if we are allowed to reach them.Maybe some of the TC's might be able to help with that. Although i'm not that long on this site i'm getting the impression it's an inside job against the use of Afrikaans. One of the reasons for saying that is that i've added Wanderlust to my contacts (Trying to build a list of everyone connected with SA) and saw that nearly all the questions she answered are in German. I've got nothing against that but why can't we use Afrikaans? Sorry for using your question for venting my frustration and it will be interesting to see how long your question and the responses last. Believe it or not, Afrikaans is not native to South Africa. When the Dutch arrived, they brought their customs with them, including their language. When the Dutch settled in, so did the language, and in time, several modifications to the language were absorbed. In time, the Afrikaans language was born. That is probably why most Afrikaans speakers are of European ancestry. So basically, Afrikaans is almost an alteration of the original Dutch language. I think local languages also had an influence on the language's development.
Afrikaans is one of the 11 national languages of South Africa. The others are SeSotho, Zulu, Venda, Xhosa, English, Ndebele, Northern Sotho, Tswana, Tsonga and Swati.

its the dutch dialect used in the former dutch colony of south africa. although most south african natives will refute that its ectually still a dutch dialect. most feel it has become a seperate language.

i personally fee ldifferently, simply for hte reason that i (a native dutch speaker) can perfectly follow written afrikaans. i even own several afrikaanse cookbooks.

to a dutch person, its sounds and looks remotely childish, because most of the spelling is simply fonetically in dutch. and the way how conjugations are used to make objects smaller
