To all, your right about one thing. I guess the way I wrote it I was saying he was entitled more than anyone. What I was trying to illustrate is I feel he has earned it so far this year. Sorry for the confusion.

Andrew P - See, I thought people were supposed to back up their claims with proof. Perish the thought you should click and read something. Oh and your welcome to the points.

To DaleJT43ever - See thats whats funny about NASCAR. When I watch a race and Jeff is upfront all I hear are them talking about JR and Smoke. Did you hear Rusty trying to make alot more out of Jeff bumping JR? Like they were going to get into a fight after the race? He was killing me. Then again I never liked Rusty. Actually unlike alot of people on here I like alot of different drivers and like seeing them do good. Although in the end I want Jeff to win, I like to see Edwards, Bowyer, Martin and some of the other drivers do well. Next year I may root a bit for Franchetti since Im originally from Scotland. The only ones I dont care for are Hamlin, Harvick and I have tried and tried to like Smoke but every week he does something embarrasing....

OK. OK. Many people I like and respect have weighed in here with an opinion I will differ with. The facts are all laid out in the article.
I'm not saying you HAVE to like him. That's the beauty of America- you have a choice.
I also beg to differ on the issue of Gordon being forced on us. Would you be saying the same thing if Bowyer were in first and he was getting the same attention.
It drives me INSANE that I have to hear about Tom Brady all the time, but....his team's undefeated and embarrassing the rest of the NFL. Brady's given me no real reason to dislike him but I get sick of him being plastered all over my world. But you know what? He's a winner and he deserves it.
If Bowyer, or Harvick, Johnson, or Stewart were winning like that, they'd deserve the attention.
Still- I agree you don't have to like the guy. All I ask is for the same consideration in return.

What you and many others fail to understand is that the drivers race differently in the first part of the season BECAUSE of the chase. That means some drivers take bigger risks based on the fact that the points will basically be reset for the last 10 races. Jeff Gordon has taken risks that he wouldn't have without this format being used. Because of that he probably got a couple of wins where it would have been too risky to try and stay out if it was a season long battle for the championship. Other drivers may have sacrificed points early on because they figured they would take a shot at a win if they were already comfortably in the chase. Everybody knew what the system was when the season started and they have all kept that in mind when it comes to race strategies. Just because some people still keep track of driver's points under the old system doesn't mean that those points would be the same if we were still using that method of determining the champion. Jeff Gordon is extremely talented and in the top 5 drivers of all time but he has also been a little lucky this year. When his engine didn't blow at Dover, when the rain shortened whatever race that was and so on. I'm not saying he is where he is at because of luck but you make it sound like nobody else even deserves a shot at it because they aren't even close to him.

I agree he should win it. He has been the dominate driver over the first 31 races.

Scott wants to eliminate any one caught cheating, I assume he means penalized- well there goes 7 of the 12 chasers. There is room for JR, but he got caught too.

Trego thinks Gordon would not have done as well had he not been going for wins. When he was locked in and going for wins is when he started having bad results. He is also lucky cause his motor did not blow. Yet JR has bad luck when it blows. what is no luck. No it was a good enough motor.

Anyway at the end of the day we have to live with the rules as they are, if Gordon is truly as good as he showed in the first 26 races he should be good enough to show it again in the last 10.

The fine gift ever. I simply lower back from holiday and the race used to be the very first thing I watched while I acquired house. With Gordon being my favourite motive force it used to be the fine gift ever for me for the reason that it used to be riding me insane now not being ready to observe the race at Martinsville and the establishing of Texas. Congrats Jeff. To unhealthy that his spouse and daughter would now not be with him in Victory Lane even though. This is is the primary of many wins for Jeff Gordon and a championship rivalry once more!!

I don't think that it should be given to him, but I think that he's proven himself BY FAR to be the best driver this year. However; the new Chase system doesn't always give the championship to the best driver. It could give the championship to a mediocre driver over the first 26 races who got on a lucky streak for the last 10 races.

Instead of arguing with you, and instead of reading what I don't already know... How about if we do this... Whoever wins the championship (NEXTEL cup), is the better race car driver. That's all we gotta do to find out. I can wait and find out. It doesn't upset me or make me "feel" a certain way. After all, this is racing. This is why we love it's competition. But a real racer knows, whether you win because your better, or whether you lost because the other guy beat you. That's just the way it goes. Get It!?

I'm not stubborn , I just want someone else to win it, like Tony Stewart or Kevin Harvick. I'm kind of tired of hearing about Jeff Gordon, don't get me wrong he is a great driver.

I just wish he wasn't forced on us by the media like he is god's gift or something..There are other drivers out there, I have nothing against him, I will be glad when this yr is over cause I'm sick of this media idiots thats all they talk about.. I hope Bowyer can win the championship..Jeffy will get his 5th championship, I just hope its not this yr.. When the media can realize that there are other guys in the chase and other drivers on the track as well, thats the yr he can win his 5th... I'm ready to buy the guys in the booth Jeff Gordon cheerleading outfits and #24 pom poms.....NO I do not hate Jeff Gordon...
