I have a 5 month old male kitten named "Monster." Monster is FIV positive (shelter kitty) and I watch his behaviour VERY closely for this reason...I've noticed that after a bit of rough-housing, he often plops down with a VERY heavy "SIGH"...now, I've had other cats and I've NEVER known them to do this...is this normal?? I'm worried that it might indicate some type of respriatory troubles...any thoughts? Of course, I've got a vet appt. scheduled for next week, but thought I might ask around in here beforehand! Thanks for any and all input!

Sighing in general is normal. It's actually necessary for life! There is surfactant in the lungs that needs to be redistributed every once in a while (which is why people sigh). My cats have heavy sighs while they're laying down too. I don't think it's anything to worry about. Good for you taking on an FIV cat! Not many people do, and it's good that you're keeping up with his health. Definitely ask the vet about this, just because it is after roughhousing. It may just be that he's tired. I may update later because I'm going to have a lecture on FIV today.
Good Luck!

Could you please make your question a little more clear? I'm not trying to be rude or anything. I would like to help, but I can't understand the question. Edit: Okay, so if Moonshine was meowing, she probably was doing that because she is ready to go into labor soon. I can't really tell you when exactly, but that is a sign. She may be meowing because she feels uncomfortable. How long has she been pregnant? It differs from cat to cat, but usually during (and about) the first 2 weeks of pregnancy, cats will walk and move around the house looking for the right place to give birth. A day or two before she gives birth, she may also not feel like eating. It is normal for her to act a little strange during pregnancy. However, if there is something that seems to be going very wrong, then you should contact her as soon as possible.

It's a few things. First off its a symthom of him havin FIV. (Sighin, tiredness, dizziness, ect) Second it's prolly because he is tired from playin around because if he came from the shelter he's probably not use to playin around third it's because he's stressin. And has obviously been thru a lot thats why he ended up in the shelter. Animals get stressed too ya know. U just keep playin with him and make sure u make him feel comfortable. After a while he'll get use to it. It just takes time.

I've observed sighing in my cats as well. They usually do it when they are winding down from play or getting ready to nap. This is normal behavior. Abnormal breathing would be shallow short breaths. If he has a pink nose and lips, examine them as well. They will appear blue if he is not breathing properly.

This could be normal, I've noticed it in my own cats when they have been rough housing. But you may also want to get to your vet sooner if you have concerns. You know him best and what is normal for him. If he is not "normal" try to get him in sooner, for your own piece of mind at least.

Good luck!!
