How should I say thank you?

Question

I'm not sure how I should thank my uncle & aunt, I have a blank card i'm going to sned them and I don't know what to write inside.
They gave me their old sofa & loveseat to me because I am moving out soon. All I can think of sounds cheezy. 'Thank you for giving me your old sofa?!' that doesn't sound very good. Please help me with this, I am so horrible at phrasing thank you's.

I would say ~

"Thank you so much for the sofa and loveseat! It was very thoughtful and kind of you to help me furnish my new home. When I get everything settled, I'll have you over so you can visit them! Thanks again, I really appreciate your kindness!"

It's always nice to add a little humor! It will make them smile! My sister gave me an old couch of hers, I loved it. Take care of them, and they'll probably last you for a while!

All they really want is to know two things: that they have helped you a bit as you make this big step in life, and that they have helped their furniture also to move on, like a pet that is loved but no longer convenient. So, write a short but friendly note about the changes in your life, mentioning incidentally how the furniture is going to look good with the decor and be really useful in your new place, plus enabling you to get/do something else that you couldn't have afforded if you hadn't had this gift. One thing that might really please them is if say you have renovated (or promise to renovate) the furniture in some way, even if it's just making some new cushion covers.

Well don't call it "old" -- that makes your gratitude more an insult.

"Thank you so much for the furniture, I really appreciate it. It will certainly be nice to have comfy places to sit in my new place. The place would be pretty bleak without them."

What you want to do is stress the positive of their act, and it's beneficial effect on your life.
