Do they realize how much stuff was left out of the book? Therefore who is to say that what we read in the bible is 100% accurate? It could very well be the truth, but it is not the wohle truth. Therefore, you shouldn't reference the Bible alone. You should study other things and grasp a better understanding. Muslims tend to reference the Quran, Tora, and yes, the Bible. Openmindedness...c'est si bon!
My theory: It is easier to condescend someone you don't understand because you are scared, than to try to understand what makes them different. If Christians were to open their minds past what THEY see, they will probably realize a great deal of their own faults. That fear of seeing how unrighteous they have been is what makes them so closeminded...truth hurts.
This is not just aimed at christians, you could fill the blank with whatever religious group you are debating, but I would like some feedback. What are your opinions on the statement I have made?

Shelly O does bring up an interesting point. It was man who put the Bible together, King James was his name, right? And he called himself leaving things out, but why? We don't know if that stuff was kept from us so that the governing powers at the time could set the rules they wanted "in the name of religion." think about it...

Jesussaves, if that is the case, and there is one God, and the first two people were Adam and Eve, then where did Cain's wife and her family come from? Think about it...

My dear Ann, I do not assume, I only speak of what I have experienced thus far. But unlike others, I have an open mind. As far as exalting one's self, I believe the bible says something about the righteous gettin into heaven? So, by no means do i think christians are righteous, but they clearly do.

I see your point, but following the Bible is the core fundamental of being a Christian. The Tora, the Quran, and others have absolutely no reference value to a Christian, for they do not acknowlege Jesus Christ as the son of God, (amongst other differential material from the Bible). Christians don't condescend; we believe what we believe, if you would like to know, we'd gladly share, if you want to convert, we welcome with wide open arms....period. It doesn't appear to be about open or close minds, but hypocrisy. You seem to have dealt, or perceive Christians as forcing their beliefs down everyone's throat, and if the folks refuse to swallow, well, Christians are better...no! True Christians are a loving people, that center Christ in our lives first, and enjoy fellowship with each other, and sharing our beliefs if invited to do so; self-righteousness and judging is not of Christ, we have faults like anyone else! As far a references, the Bible is the source, and Christian related books, anything else is futile or just educational/extracurricular reading. My thoughts as a Christian.

If i were to write a book on the history of England, it would probably leave out most of the information about Japan. If I were to write a science text about evolution, would probably leave out any discussions of the Constitution. If I were to write a book on the philosophy of Martin Luther King, it would probably no include a lot of information of designing the space shuttle. Because those thing would not be needed o understand the subject being sritten about.
The subject of the Bible is God and his relationship to man. As the Bible already runs nearly the length of all seven Harry Potter novels put together, would you really want a lot of pointless other stuff added to it?
It includes the books that are needed to cover the subject. The rest was left out for good reasons.

HOW MANY WAYS DOES GOD MAKE MISTAKES
The world of people that have been full of the imperfections of sin since Adam in Eden.
At year 2513, O.T. next 1110 years, 39 books, many write, done 443 before Christ and N.T. 27 books, published to the world year 1611, 396 years ago for the last days and the time of the end, world age 6073 years [ in an ages old universe and earth ].
HOW MUCH IS KNOW ABOUT THE 66 BOOKS OF THE BIBLE IN 396 YEARS?
Heb.11:1-40; 12:1,2;
When did Abel live and die? When did Noah live and die? When did Abraham live and die? When did Ishmael live and die? When did Sarah live and die? When did Isaac live and die? When did Jacob have the twelve tribes, when did he go into Egypt and at what age, what year did he die?
What about Joseph, his life his death, the age of his bones at Josh.24:32;
Then Moses Acts 7:1-60; The Exodus, Genesis ends year 2368? Job ends 2433? Exodus began year 2513? Moses dies year 2553? Joshua ends 40 years Josh.5:6,10,12; 14th day New Year, and has crossed Jordan, year 2554. Judges 11:26; adds 300 years to year 2854 after Jordon crossed.
Acts 13:20; adds 450 years from Exodus to year 2963. 1Ki.6:1; adds 480 years from Moses death to year 3033, Solomon has 36 years to year 3069.
Temple is age 29 years, in 391 years, no temple, no kings, Jerusalem is desolate, all are captive to Babylon world Empire #3, Matt.1:1-17;
Year 3460, [ 1804 years after the flood ], 606 years before Christ, Christ was 2007 years ago at Rome world Empire #6, and the 66 bible books have been in circulation 396 years, and 2007 after Christ is 2613 after Babylon ended kings, THERE WILL BE NO KING UNTIL KING JESUS AT HIS SECOND COMING.
Dan.12:1-13; Has time of the end Dan.12:12 [2 x 1335 = ] 2670 after Babylon
and now is 2613. Rev.20:1-6; No Satan 1000 years?
IS THE BIBLE FOR REAL, THE TRUTH? Dan.8:12-14; John 8:32; 17:17;
Eph.2:7; 3:21; The world with Jesus is without end. THIS IS THE FAITH OF ALL THOSE BIBLE PEOPLE, all LOST in Eden is SAVED by Christ Jesus?
John 3:16; 17:3; 2Pet.3:13; 1Cor.15:22-28; Rev.21:1-5; All made as new as before Eden. Any that missed the perfection mark has self to blame.

You're being presumptious in assuming that Christians don't read about other religions. Many theologians and many christians i've met in my day to day life are well read.
Bible is treated as the word of God, and Christians believe in the accuracy of what is written. No single book can explain all truths - what are these truths?
But yes, I believe that what I need to know about God and living a God centred life, is covered in the Bible, more than adequately.
Self righteousness is not advocated in the Bible, if you see it anywhere, it's not God and not the Bible. The Bible teaches that we are sinners, and no man is supposed to exalt himself. So, maybe you need to examine your sources, first.

First of all how do you claim that stuff was left out of the Bible? The only think left out of the Bible are books, stories that are fakes, not historically accurate, and blatant heresy. Second do you read world history? Have you read the history of Islam and Muhammad? I do not mean going to an Islamic web site or reading a book written by Muslim Scholars either. Get a general, non-religious book on world History and find out who Muhammad was, what he believed BEFORE he created Islam and find out how exactly he fashioned the Quran. You will find he used the Jewish and Christian books as he guide and basically "fashioned" the stories to fit his agenda.

In regards to referencing any book, it helps to have some idea of authenticity, validity and verifiability; there are probably other criteria as well. For instance the Bible and Torah tend to do fairly well on locations and civilizations. On the other hand, there does not seem to be much other support or evidence for things like the sun stopping or the flood.

to assume my mind is closed and that i dont read other religious books such as the qu'ran and others,is UNWISE!
ya see,the reality is that the bible IS NOT A THEORY,it is the lords truth.

I think the Bible has one purpose: to tell each of us how to obey God. Trying to read scientific conclusions or other things into it causes us to turn it into an "idol."
The Pharisees followed Jesus around with their earlier books of the Bible open and used it to criticize everything he did. He told them to put God's love first. If we read it in that light I think it all makes sense.

God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. When you look at what He has actually stressed for MANKIND and NOT just what the Jews had tried to live by....and what Jesus said and did and the promises of the OT and NT they have NOT differed at all.
Whether you add anything that was left out or not, haven't you noticed that things REPEAT throughout the Bible?
Personally....after I received the Holy Spirit, if anything is missing, the Holy Spirit whom was the author is right here with me to tell me so...and He seems fine with it! (lol) :)
