Hi kl- you know what? I learned recently that fasting is only in terms of food but 'consecration' is when we remove things like you mentioned you went without TV, out of our lives. I'vebeen "fasting" from secular tv too. blessings~

Beloved of my Father...I want to share that fasting is done corporately so its not about it being secretive. Matt 6:16 says do not do it to impress others or feign righteousness. I would hope that you would see the sharing of this story and this question as an opportunity to Glorify God in your own testimony. Its never about us..only Him, amen?

Yes! How sad that this discipline is almost lost in our church! Jesus Himself said that certain types of demons only come out through prayer and FASTING. Shouldn't that be enough?

Fasting is not always food, though, in my opinion --- or it can be certain types of food. A Daniel fast (also called a 'no pleasant bread' fast is an example). Or just anything that shows God that you are serious about your prayer and are willing to go without something you love because you love Him more.

My longest food fast was 9 days. That was intense. My longest fast was approx. 1 year. My Sunday School teacher was *gravely* ill and I gave up watching television while he was sick. I was so blessed by that! I was amazed by how giving up TV changed my outlook so that I valued the things of God so much more than the things of the world. I remember going back to TV and not BELIEVING what I was seeing, I had been made so much more sensitive to what wickedness was subtly being preached from it.

Yes, I truly believe in fasting. Jesus said that some things will only happen through prayer and fasting.

Sadly the longest I have ever fasted is a day and a half.

Yes, I used to fast every Wednesday and Friday, but I had to forgo the discipline, as I am predisposed to diabetes and the fasting was having a detrimental health effect on me. I now fast from radio, fast foods, and television during the week, with the exception of watching documentaries and children's tv shows with my two daughters.

ya know praying does not cost money and you do not need someones permission to pray at least not in your own space and you do not have to go to a doctor for a prescription to pray however prayer is a request from god and i still pray but i don;t always like the answer. I have had situations wheni have prayed turn out better than i expected

The Catholic Church follows the Biblical practice of Jesus Christ and the Jews in setting aside days where the entire Church fasts and prays as one in a attitude of constant renewal.

Fridays were chosen because Jesus died for us on Good Friday.

Fasting is one of the three methods of interior penance along with prayer and almsgiving.

With love in Christ.

i havent ever tried to fast except if the cafe food was gross but i believe fasting is good for you because it helps you grow spiritually because you have to rely on God to keep you going and it helps clean your body by washing it out with water.

I believe fasting is very good for one's body, because I've read one's body starts burning itself, and it begins with the things it needs least: cysts, tumors, fat. And it can not hurt your prayers; probably shows your earnestness and focus' your will, or something like that.
