Silverlake is a somewhat nice area---some good parts and some bad. First the bad areas are located around the Sunset Junction area, which is the intersection of Sunset and Santa Monica Boulevards. Homeless people and "crazies" wander the streets at night. Every last week of August there is an annual street fair held in that area with up and coming rock groups performing. The more decent but expensive neighborhoods are closer to the reservoir, and it is served by two public schools, two churches. Best thing about Silverlake is that you're not far from Griffith Park, and the hospitals are only a couple of miles away. Best neighborhood to live in if you get a job in downtown, the Hollywood-Los Feliz area, or Glendale.

I have lived in Silver Lake for over 40 years. When I moved here it was a really nice upper class neighborhood. But it has gone down hill for last few years. Sooooo many illegals moving in and ruining the place. I do all my business in Glendale because of this.

I used to live there. It's not all that, for music or anything else. It's not the best looking part of LA and there's not a lot of great places to hang out at. Eagle Rock's better.

It's Silverlake, one word.

It's a mix with and funky shops, clubs, and a significant gay population.

Doesn't have a bad rep.
