the purpose is that we live our life well by serving God, telling others about Him, and being a good example for others to follow. When we believe in God and live for Him, when we die, we will go to heaven and live there forever in happiness and beauty not known to men.
There's no point in living without God here on earth, because when people die not believing in God, they will go to hell, where they will spend eternity in fire with pain and anguish, and they will suffer forever but wont be able to get out, because they had a chance here on earth to serve and believe God, and they rejected Him.
As for our bodies, they will become worm food, but when we go to heaven, God will give us new perfect bodies, without disabilities and imperfections.
God Bless

Well the thing with this is nobody knows really what happens when you die. Believing something happens after death is a desire for most, the willingness to accept that there may be nothing after death is something that most are not willing to admit. I'm not saying there isn't anything after death, but I'm not going to say there is either. The whole point is nobody knows, theories have been made, religions, and everything else but the point is the answer is never going to be concrete. The purpose of life cannot be answered either. Again you have theories and things people have written (and marking as truth) even though it is also an idea, not the true purpose. Humans have this thing about making up ideas for something they know they will not be able to truly answer or find the answer to. Practically I see the purpose of my life being as what I make of it. Trying to do good in life and succeed. Why do I try to be good? Not because if I don't I have the thought that I'll burn in hell or that my place in heaven won't be as golden if I'm not, but because I want to. My purpose in life is to make what I can of it and try to enjoy it while I can. I could never stress myself over what happens after I die. That is for me to know when I die and pondering about it isn't going to bring the true answer closer, so why would I?

I don't believe there's some universal, objective purpose that applies to everybody. Some find a "purpose in life" by raising a family, being an artist, founding an organization, doing philanthropy, or whatever they feel their "calling is".
I myself don't view my life as having one and only one "purpose" or "destiny". I'm certainly ambitious, and I accomplish my goals here and there, whether that's being a better musician, creating something new and exciting in my profession, teaching things to other people, experiencing the best things the world has to offer, etc.
If anything, I think the people who focus so much on an afterlife are people who DON'T find much of a purpose or accomplish much when they're alive.

If there's no destiny then there is no "ultimate" purpose. However, one could look at it from a genetic deterministic point of view, which would suggest that our purpose is to reproduce our DNA in the form of offspring. Or, you could simply say that your purpose in life is whatever you make of it--whatever fulfills you. In Christianity, as I understand it (I'm agnostic) you have free will, but God wants you to do certain things so you can go to heaven. Arguably, however, He already knows whether you will or you won't (being omniscient). This is your destiny. That idea doesn't really comfort me any more than the idea of simply dying and being worm food.

To live a good and prosperous life the same purpose others have without being bought off by only acting good for some reward at the end of it all. I think that living a good life is its own reward I don't need the promise of heaven or threat of hell to enjoy life and do what is right.

To live well, as the first guy said.
And incidentally, I don't see how believing that you go to God's Clubhouse when you die, provided you followed a list of arbitrary and self-contradictory rules, adds any "purpose" to THIS life. All it means is that you've transferred all the value of this life off to your fantasy of heaven. Your one "purpose" is to get in. Am I supposed to be impressed by that?
Even if I was a strict materialist - which I'm not - it's still nobler to accept life on its own terms than to pretend that it's just some sort of "test" for a better life after we die.
BTW - the purpose of this answer was to get me to Level 4. lol

Wait a minute TriSec, your ONLY purpose in life is to wait around to die so you can get into heaven? That's the saddest thing I've ever heard.
TriSec sez:
"Well, I think it is sad you believe you only exist 100 years or less and that is it. It goes both ways."
YOU MISSED THE POINT COMPLETELY. IT IS SAD THAT YOU THINK THE ONLY PURPOSE IN LIFE IS TO DIE AND GO TO HEAVEN. What is sad is your conception of purpose. The purpose of life isn't to wait to die.

To live it. To grow and nuture love and respect. To learn about the world and the universe in real ways. To have people remember you fondly when you die. To nourish a few worms in the end. See it's not so bad?!
Now what about my honest and heartfelt answer deserved a thumbs down? There's nothing wrong with feeding worms.

To live it well.
Many societies, before and after Jesus, came up with the golden rule. It even turns up in game theory. It requires no afterlife to make it a good rule for this life.
You should ask yourself, if not for the carrot of a heaven and the stick of a hell would you be out raping and pillaging? If so, I feel sorry for your shaky hold on morality. I suspect, though, that you would continue to be as good a person as you are now.
