i just installed two 5 x 7's in my Probe GT but i just replaced the stock speakers and didnt run the wires. i took a guess and they both work but i didnt know if i did it wrong and if i did it the other whether it would sound better? i dont feel like tearing my whole car apart for speakers.

nothing happens as long as you do all the other speakers the same way. but, if you do some +/+,-/- and some +/- or -/+ then they'll be out of phase, which means they'll cancel out each others frequencies so you won't get the full range the speakers are made for. but, as far as damaging them, that won't happen by just reversing terminals.

there are tons of things that could be wrong here. ive hooked up many stereos so ive seen lots of problems. first thing i would do is make absolutely shur that ALL of your wires are 100% connected properly and going to the RIGHT PLACE. if that still doesnt work check ur fuses AND ur constant power source with a volt meter. also check to see that you have a good ground connction, sometimes you might hafta grind a little metal to get a good connection cuz electricity doesnt flow as well through paint. if all that doesnt work but the stereo comes on like it should, then you just might have bad or blown speakers.

these answers amaze me. one guy was right they become out of phase, what that means is that the speakers ar enot working together, but against one another. essentially a speaker moves air to make noise, when there are two they work together to move more air. if you swithc the wires then instead of working together they work against one another resulting in alot less low end, with little to no mid bass. tweeters are not really effected as much

I agree with the above. the two speakers will be out of phase, one will push while the other pulls basically canceling each other out. You will know if they are out of phase because you will lose virtually all your low end bass as bass is omnidirectional and if you position yourself in the middle of the speakers you should hear the frequencies cancel out and produce little to no low end.

ok in speakers if you dont have them on a amplifier then your ok cuz usually Your speakers become out of phase. and you can tell when they are amplified just remember this most hot colors are positive and dull colors are negative but dont ever do this when your working with subs cuz with subs you have to do it right cuz the sound quality depends alot in the way the sub is wired ok good luck

there are polarity markings on speakers in order to keep the speakers synchronized, meaning that all speaker cones are moving in the same direction at the same time. some people claim they can hear the difference, i can't. but it wont hurt the speakers

If you put it on the wrong ends it will make little to no sound...if tthe sound quality seems poor you may have done this.
