I have been given 50 dollars to spend in a certain store.

I own a Canon PowerShot S5IS

I don't know what to buy, though. I've been thinking a Tripod would be a useful thing. However, I do not know what would be the best Tripod, or if you can buy them for 50 dollars.

Can someone help me?

Oh sure you can get a tripod for as little as 10 dollars. Get a very light one, realize you will carry it with you. You don't have to spend big money, they all serve its single purpose, they hold the camera! There is plenty of stuff with photography that will take big money, trust me, its not a tripod. Go to walmart!

I think it depends on the type of shooting you are going to do.

Polarizer is great for lanscapes and outdoor shots, a tripod for low light photography.

I use a small travel tripod that would work great with your camera. I wrote an article about it on my blog at http://blog.fowlefoto.com/gear-guide/mini-travel-tripods.

I would also consider another set of rechargeable batteries, a nice case if you don't already have one, the wide angle converter so you can take wider angle shots (I think this is more than $50 though), and / or invest it in some software for your computer. Like a photo editing , noise reduction, panorama stitching program, or a cataloging program to keep track and enable you to find all the photos you are taking.

Happy Shooting!

I'd opt for an extra memory flash card.

I hate being caught, out in the field with a full memory card! I took a road trip to Chicago and back to the San Francisco Bay Area, a few years ago, and found myslef running out of space. Back then, flash cards were EXPENSIVE, so a new one was NOT in my budget. There I was, about to cross the Rocky Mountains, and then into Utah, painfully deleting my more marginal shots to make room for more.

Until they make a portable USB flash drive that hooks directly to my cameras, I, now, ALWAYS carry extra memory cards.

Buy a circular polarizer and a Haze or Skylight filter and the accessory adapter you need to mount them. Leave the Haze or Skylight filter on all the time, only removing it to use the polarizer.

$50.00 isn't enough for a decent tripod.
