Wow I didn't get an ultra sound until just last week at 22 weeks. I guess all doctors are different. I don't know that they will be able to tell the sex of the baby at 16 weeks. The technician told me that boys are easier to tell but this still sounds too soon.
Write down all the questions that you have, no matter how silly you think they are, because once you get there you are going to forget. I am a first timer so I have tons of questions for my dr. Even if I don't have an appointment I call his office and he's great about calling back.
Congrats!

They usually can't tell the sex until around 20 weeks. The first ultrasound is usually just for dating the pregnancy. But you will be able to see the heartbeat which is cool. And most OB/GYN's will give you a lot of literature to look to answer any questions about what you should eat and what medicines are safe to take, etc.

I know some women have learned the sex of the baby as early 14 weeks but 18-20 weeks is more common. If you have a good u/s technician or OB and the baby cooperates, you might get lucky. But don't count on finding out today.
Best of luck and congratulations.

usually they will tell you at 20 wks what the sex of the baby is if you want them to, they will tell you that they are not 100% because they can never be certain.
there is the 3d scan that you can have which is more acurate when looking for the sex but it does cost.
i was told im having a boy but i have had a open mind, so that i dont go out and buy loads of boy things for him to only be a girl if you get what i mean.

you really cant find out the gender until your 18th to 20th week unless you get lucky ^_^ but right now you should only be worried about the health of the baby and yourself. Be patient. ^_^ The only thing you can do. I know it's exciting. Oh, and if it is a boy, you'll be carrying low if that answers your question.

If the baby is turned a certain way than they should be able to tell you the sex at this point. I am going in the morning and hope to find out too. I am about 16.5 weeks myself.

Drink a lot of water before you go. This way your bladder will be full and you will get a better picture of your baby. Sometimes it may still be hard to tell... It is usually easier to tell after twenty weeks.
