God is always referred to as Him, in most if not all monotheistic religions, or other male pronouns, where is the proof that "He" is male? Is it because people assume only a male super being is capable of being God? If God is some celestial force why isn't "He" referred to as 'It"?
Where did the idea of using male pronouns to describe God come from?

David, if it doesn't matter, why are you so worked up about it? So much has been changed in the Bible, all I want to know is how did people come to the summation that God should be afforded a male title,

For Donnie Darko, God was called "He" long before Jesus came to earth and called him "Father"......
Uncle Thesis,The Bible was written by man, so that statement was made by man not God.

True, God is not male.
Gender does not exist in heaven.
However, He Himself refers to Himself as being male.
He referred to being the 'husbandly owner' of Israel.
Isaiah 54:5
Jesus referred to God in the male sense.
"Our FATHER, who art in heaven....."
Why, if God is not male?
It has to do with being an authority figure.
God certainly is an authority.

most, if not all ancient societies set men above women, easily checked out by research. therefore, the writers of the day used the male pronouns to describe God. God is a being, no need to be male or female. but this is an abstraction, something ancients (before the Greeks and other higher thought societies) struggled with. so to give God a gender made it easier to understand. Also, for christianity, the closest human form of God, Jesus, appeared as a man. and Jesus refers to God as father. You cannot "prove" God is male or female, most likely neither. but the point is also moot, it doesnt really matter.

God is neither male nor female, but calling God "it" seems disrespectful. The reason that God is considered a male is because men have always been considered the superior gender and God is the supreme being. So, naturally, He would be a He. I don't think it makes much difference one way or another. God is still God.

Why is the gender reference to God such a problem for you or anyone else, for that matter.

The fact of the matter is God is genderless, because "He" is spirit, not mortal.

Why are you making this such a big deal?

What difference does it make?
