The other popular saying is this; `If you were put before a court and charged with being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you`?

I have never heard that saying. I just go by the identifying mark Christ gave at John 13:35: "By this all will know you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves." What sort of love? John 15:12 specifies: "Love one another just as I have loved you." Well, how did Jesus love them? He sacrificed himself. Thus, true Christians have self-sacrificing love for each other, no matter where they may be found on earth. Have you found a Christian that does not participate in carnal warfare, slaughtering other Christians in whatever nation they may be found? Then, no doubt, you have met a Christian. Have you found a Christian that does not participate in carnal warfare, slaughtering other humans in whatever nation they may be found, but instead loves his enemies as Christ commanded? Then, no doubt, you have met a Christian.
Think of all the millions of people, soldiers and civilians, who were killed in wars over the last ninety years alone. Not a single person was killed by a true follower of Christ - which is a Christian. Now, all you have to do is figure out those "Christians" that did not engage in any of these wars. You might be surprised.

Actions speak louder than words. If someone is living the life as a true believing Christian, it is usually very apparent.
The book of James in the New Testament lays it out pretty clearly.

I agree somewhat, the bible says you will know a tree by the fruit it bears....so if a person acts like a christian and does good works, but bears no fruit than they are probably the one trying to do the convincing... But if the person acts like a Christian and bears the fruit of the spirit, that being love, peace, patients, joy, long suffering and peace of the Spirit, than you should know them by their fruit (actions) not by them calling themselves Christians!

There are too many immature people in this world who say no your not, because they can or say no your not, because they don't want to make your own decisions. And then there is the real brats who want to start a fight with you just because they don't like etc. If the world is better than being a christian, why don't their psychiatrist get control of their angry people?

I can't imagine ever going out of my way to verbally convince anyone I'm a Christian (using the term loosely b/c I believe in Jesus/God but don't belong to a religion)
that "saying" really doesn't make much sense to me as far as 'everyday' life, some preachers fall into that category like "Creflo Dollar" (he has million dollar private planes) and those like him

I think it's very true - there are a lot of people that claim to be Christian but don't live it out (no one's perfect, but some people don't even try). A true Christian is one who shows God's love to the people around them.

I wouldn't agree with the statement. I feel like you shouldn't have to convince someone you are a christian. They should be able to tell by your actions. I'm not saying if someone tried to convince someone that they are a christian doesn't mean they arent.
Jesus says:
And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.

There's also the old chesnut about if you were on trial for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?
If you are really living as Jesus taught, your life should show it with joy, peace, love, contentment, generosity, etc. If you're crabby and bitter and hateful, you're not a Christian.

Maybe it means that you should be able to tell by their works if they are truly Christian though you can never do enough to prove you are a Christian to other christians. You know whether you are or not because you have a personal relationship with Jesus.
