He just gave an alternate idea of creation of human being. He never denied God, his point is that evolution is also a greate sign of God.

i have not read all of his work, but i do not recall reading (in what part i have read )that he called himself an athiest.
and, of course, we know the biblical account of Genesis is fictional. the world was not created in 6 days. science has proven it.
the people of the time probally wanted to burn him at the stake for being a heretic, is what i think, and that is why there was the emphasis on his reglious beliefs.
you've gotten me curious now, and i'll have to go research this some more.
thanks
LK

1. His religious belief isn't important.
2. His science wasn't great. He has been proved wrong in nearly all of his major assertions regarding evolution which included the young "inheriting" learned behavior of their parents.

He actually referred to himself as agnostic, at least according this quote "The mystery of the beginning of all things is insoluble by us; and I for one must be content to remain an Agnostic." - Charles Darwin. The quote itself is taken from his autobiography.

Darwin never referred to himself as an atheist.
Fact is, he referred to his acceptance of the Creator in "Origin Of Species." Last page.
He believed God started the evolutionary process.

He was neither religious or athiest, but more agnostic.
You can find out here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Darwin's_views_on_religion
And his science was brilliant, so I also fail to understand why people are bothered about what his religious beliefs were.

I always thought he was a pretty devout Christian at first, went agnostic for a while, then reverted back to Christianity. He used the Christian moral code to guide his own though, and would quote scripture to justify it.

He never talked about his religion. He also never recanted. His daughter, who was there at his side when he died, said he never recanted. Its a Christian lie because they want to make themselves seem wonderful.

No, he didn't.
And his religious beliefs aren't important. It has nothing to do with the facts that science presents to us.
