If we don't want to receive truckloads of pre-approved and unsolicited credit card offers why do we have to "OPT-OUT" of the credit bureaus, instead of the other way around. That is we would have to specifically "OPT-IN" to receive this kind of junk mail or telemarketing.

After all these pre-approved credit card offers endanger a person and makes it easy for his/her identity (and money) to be stolen.

Because the CRA's, and other businesses, make money by selling your information.
There is no law stating that a business must treat a person as being opted out until that person decides to opt in. Naturally since the law isn't set up that way, the businesses are going to do whatever they can to put the green in their pockets.

If you want to be truly opted out, you shouldn't stop at opting out on the governments optoutprescreen site, since that only covers the CRA's.
Also, putting yourself on the do not call list will not stop other companies from selling your info.

You will have to opt out with each and every company you do business with - credit card companies, banks, cell phone companies, internet providers, etc., etc., etc...........etc.

Not all companies sell peoples information, but many do since it is a lucrative business. Even my local electric company sells info and provides the opportunity to opt out.

Pretty stupid huh? I hate it. But the marketing laws are in their favor kind of like the DO NOT CALL list. If you have EVER done business with them in any way, (or an entity connected to them) it is their out. That in effect is their marker for you accepting it.

Because the major credit corporations own our politicians.

This is one more reason why we need to outlaw lobbyists.

Will never happen though, we are too much the sheep.
