Just curious on how some of you feel that I'm going to a private Catholic nursing school when I am Athiest.
I love the school it is one of the best ones here. I know of course they accept all students but was wondering how others felt. Thanks.

Actually I found the presentation for the school to be very intresting with the religious history behind it.
I have full respect for all people regardless of religion.

I'm a lifelong atheist, but like you I have no difficulties associating with persons of all faiths in a professional environment. I'm all for diversity because it is in the nature of human beings to be unique individuals. I think you can only benefit from getting a good solid education in the profession of your choosing. I wouldn't be surprised if, as an atheist, you end up teaching a few people a thing or two about tolerance. Anyway, nursing is a worthy profession and, as always, it's good to hear that we rational atheists are becoming a larger part of every community. Good luck.

So many universities were built because of religious backing, often times that the history is all that remains. The Catholic universities that I know of do not prejudice against students who wish to attend regardless of whatever faith they have or don't have. I had a lutheran friend attend a Catholic university and had no problem. The only requirements you may have issues with are the religious education classes that are sometimes a requirement at Catholic schools. If you have no problem learning some of what Catholicism is about, the school should be a good one for you.

I went to a Catholic high school. I don't know exactly how they are going to integrated Catholicism into a nursing school. In high school we had theology class. I don't think you'll be doing that there. You may have a hard time fitting in simply because of bigotry from the Catholics. But, as long as they're not teaching you to pray for miracles instead of using practical methods, then I guess it is okay.

I am an Atheist, and I went to a Catholic school

As long as you understand where you are and that you CANNOT change people's beliefs, you should be alright.

Don't try to be the one who tries to get prayer out of Catholic schools. That is just not right. You will be going to school with people who are willing to pay through the nose to get a religion-based education. You may not share their beliefs but you have to respect them

I was sent to Catholic school as they provided a much higher level of education than the regular state school. In UK both are free.

I was then and am still an Atheist.

Yes. Or a Jewish School. The emphasis on learning in these parochial schools, and the lack of distractions of violence and drugs, does make them very enticing. My sister works for the ECE (early childhood education) department of our local Jewish Community Center. Fully fifty percent of the teachers are no Jewish, and forty percent of the kids aren't Jewish. It's just safer, and despite classes that include religious studies, more rigorous educationally.

I think it is great that you "love the school" and it is one of the best! I am glad you are getting the best possible education. I am Catholic, but do not feel I am entitled to judge others regarding their religious or lack of religious beliefs.

Generally, at that level, religion class isn't compelled. Even if it is, I am sure they have a comp. religions class that might give you an interesting overview of religions of the world.

If your parents can pony up the money, you deserve the best. Your presonal beliefs should be secondary to the education you are supposed to be getting.

I can see doing that if they really have the best education. I would personally avoid it myself.
