My Fiance' and I are getting married in April. His father is deceased and his mother left at a young age. When we started dating, my family accepted him as their own. He knows how important the father-daughter dance is to me so instead of making me miss that opportunity he decided to ask my amazing grandmother to give him the honor....she accepted but we are having the HARDEST time finding a song that shows the respect, love and how grandmother made him feel at home, without sounding like I am marrying my brother or something!!! any ideas?

There are a lot of old songs that are sweet and talk about the beauty of the DAY without specifically talking about who. Look at old jazz songs. Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra. Dean Martin's Thats Amore.

You could always do an instrumental arrangement of a song as well. Holes in the Floor of Heaven is a traditional one when a parent has passed.

I think Heartlands I loved her first suits very well since it is your grandmother. There is only the one line about "love of a father runs deep"--which implies its the father-daughter dance.

A Song for My Son is good. After all, he has grown even if she didnt see him as a small child and the chorus is great. In My Life by the Beatles is a great one.

Why does it have to be a traditional "wedding" song? My husband and his mom danced to a shagging song. It could just be a song she particularly likes. My good friend danced a swing dance song with his mother, to show off their great dance skills.

You could use the "standards" like What A Wonderful World.

I enjoy Israel Kamakawiwo Ole's version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow.

"God Must Have Spent A Little More Time On You" by NSync.
I know Nsync is a boy band and kinda corny but look up the lyrics and read them it's a beautiful song.
