If you want to get the sum of all numerical values in cells A4 to A30, you type:
=SUM(A4:A30)
You need the = sign in there. In order to find the sum of all numerical values in a single column, you can type it like this:
=SUM(A:A)
That looks at the entire column rather than just some of the cells in the column.

You have to put an equal sign in front of the formula
=SUM(A4:A30)
All equations have to start with an "=", or they are treated as "text" instead.

Just "drag" the rows. No need for a formula.

You can of course scroll across the rows (leaving a blank cell on the right) and click the Sigma toolbar?
