What a horrible question. Here's the thing: when MLK did his famous protest marches or his beautiful speeches he wasn't spreading around christianity...he was looking for equality. I guess you could say MLK was more humanist in his approach of christianity, which is much more easy to digest than plain bible thumping. You seem to forget that most of the hardcore racism that existed then, came from the "bible belt," have you ever heard the story of the mark of Cain misinterpreted to support racism? and that's just one example. I wouldn't call MLK brainwashed because of his christianism, but I would the majority of americans that existed then that used it to support their racism against african americans.
You should read Martin Luther King's "Letter from Birmingham Jail"...
Hey, and what better way is there to demand equality from a country that WAS brainwashed by christianity and the bible, than by using their own weapon agaisnt them!

I couldn't say for sure because I did not know Martin Luther King personally. But.... from what I saw he appeared to be a true follower of Jesus Christ. I am a Christian who once thought the same way you did. Not about Christians only but also every other religion. I learned not to judge people if I knew nothing about their beliefs & whats's behind it. My advice to you is to truly open your heart to God & ask Him to give you wisdom & knowledge of His purpose for your life. Read the Gospels which shows how & why God sent Jesus. God wants a relationship with us; He created us for His purpose. It sounds selfish but there is no grater love than God's love for you. Ask Jesus into your heart & you will never regret it. It's an amazing connection to God & I do believe Martin Luther KIng had that connection. Give it a try. You will be so blessed. Read particually the Gospel of John. It will truly change your life. God Bless You!

Ok, how about the Pope or Mother Theresa? They are/were Christians. How about David Robinson, George Foreman, or Deion Sanders, who all profess to be Christians? Della Reese is a Christian pastor, is she brainwashed? How about JRR Tolkien or CS Lewis, were they brainwashed? I wonder if Sir Isaac Newton was brainwashed, because professed to be a Christian too. You can see where this is leading, the list can go on for miles.

He was a revolutionary who challenged social norms and fought for equality. Yet he was also a minister and devout Christian. A lot of people seem to think Christians just do what they're told and don't think outside of the box. Oh, and my favorite: we're "delusional."
Of course making a statement about each and every Christian who has ever lived is ridiculous. Not only do you have no way of knowing every individual's reasons for believing (and it's not fair to assume you do), but you can't speak to their personal experience.
Dr. King did great things, despite his religion.

I met him personally and he seemed a little off but certainely not brainwashed. Chrtistians make up 40% of the world and 80% of North America where I live, and I have not too many that are brainwashd.

No, Martin Luther King Jr. seemed original to me.
Most religious people are brainwashed though. Doesn't really matter the religion.

Pretty open ended question. It's sad the way blacks were treated. My personal opinion is that America is still *** backwards in racism.
Example: Blacks in Nazi Germany were treated better than Blacks in America during WWII. While they were looked upon as lower than whites, they still had simliar if not equal rights as the white Germans. They weren't typically persecuted like the Jewish people were.
Martin Luther King Jr. was not perfect, he had skeletons in his closet. Everyone does though. He did start the trend for rights for blacks. I think Rosa Parks did the best job though.

Many Christians are brainwashed. Martin Luther King Jr is best known for his accomplishments in civil rights -not in religious doctrine. The good he did for the world greatly outshines the fact that he may have been delusional in his belief in god or that he plagiarized his dissertation to obtain his doctoral degree.
