The story is that the one police officer, John Parker, stationed outside of the box where Lincoln and his party were seated left his post to go across the street for a drink. The box was closed but not locked, and Booth took the opprtunity to silently walk up the stairs and enter the box and assassinate Lincoln.

Ya know, I was just having a cup of coffee the other day with that guy and he said......................oh wait, this was before I was born.

For starters, Lincoln didn't die right away but was taken across the street to a "house" where he received medical care until he died. Secondly, IF he had died right away, what purpose could the "body guard" have served by staying with the corpse? Would he not be better off looking for the suspect? Third, where did THIS question come from?????

Lincoln didn't have a bodygaurd. Just him and his party. It was said he saw John [Wilkes] Booth (confederalist) and knew something was wrong, but then was shot.

It's pretty strange that you ask, we're covering the Civil War right now in History and that exact occasion of Lincoln at the play was discussed briefly.
