I must ask this question, because of all the Anti-Christian questions posted on here all the time. I am a very strong, proud Christian woman, and I admit that the church is a great gateway to achieving a loving relationship with God, my Savior. How is that wrong? Who has the right to doubt my faith, even though I am not allowed to doubt theirs? If someone can answer this question with a logical, thinking statement, I will happily award the points. I really am curious, though, why people who claim to have no religion constantly and consistantly bash other peoples religions. Me and my Christian friends and those who worship with us don't go out and do these things. Why is it that people view me, my fellow Christians, our places of worship, and worst of all, our Savior and our key to Salvation as the bad guy?

Please Note:
I am not afraid of admitting my Christianity, I am simply concerned about why people make it sound like such a bad thing to be a Christian. Thanks for the good answers...keep them coming, please!

It is absolutely fine with calling yourself a Christian, and be able to dispute "other doctrine", if it isn't in the Bible. The Bible is our ULTIMATE authority!.... There are MANY people out there is the world, who CALL themselves Christians, but really don't know much of what is in the Bible, or really don't care.... The enemies of the Church have always tried to tear down the Church, the Bible, and any who follow Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.... Here is a verse that tells everything!!..." Enter ye by the narrow gate: because broad is the gate and large is the way that leadeth to perdition, and many there be that enter by it. How narrow is the gate, and straight is the way that leadeth to life, AND FEW THERE ARE THAT FIND IT!!> MT7:13,14....... And here is another verse that means this time of ages.... "But you are an elect generation, a kingly priesthood, a holy nation, a PECULIAR people: that you may declare his virtues which from darkness hath called you into his marvelous light.".>1PET 2:9....
If anyone here doesn't believe that Pauls writings were very very good, they ARE not Christians... Because THROUGH the hand of God, Paul wrote what he did!!
The WHOLE Bible was written BY God, THROUGH men.
Don't be afraid of "men", who can kill your body, but rather fear God who can send you to hell....
It has been the Christians who have been persecuted by the enemies of Christ for nearly 2000 years. We will continue to be persecuted, because we have and know the truth.

First, I have never bashed a Christian person or any person of any religion just for the fun of it. However, if they engage me in discussion or debate or if they come into a website like Y!A which is a debating forum - then I will engage them right back.
Second, I hope that I have never gotten nasty except in response to nastiness. When I am told that I am fool for not believing and I am going to burn in Hell because I am a dirty atheist - then, yes, I strike back.
Third, why are you afraid of calling yourself a Christain. 80% of the USA is Christian and 95% of the USA are believers. It is the atheist who, I think, have a much bigger risk when they come out of the closet. But, then, what do I know.

Its the total lack of reason that religion represents that gets to me. i find that in this day and age, religious beliefs to be quite embarrassing. They also help to create hate and differences between human kind. Also Christians judge people on there own set of rules, telling them that they are going to hell. What a thing to say? They have no proof of there beliefs but just except everything that they are told. Free thinking is discouraged, children are indoctrinated at a young age to believe these things, told terrifying stories about going to hell if the don't do what they are told. I could go on all night, but i don't see the point.
I don't hate the religious... I hate the religion.

They either ignore it or pass a law saying it is true. In Tennessee there was actually a law passed that declared the value of pi to be three, because the Biblical description of a dome used the wrong dimensions. This is what comes of stealing a manual without getting the original owner to explain what it means.

Ignorance. Hatred. Fear. Arrogance. Condescension. Disrespect. The list could be endless. The people who bash and attack and pee in everybody's cornflakes are psychopathically unhappy, and need a target on which to project their own subliminal dissatisfaction with themselves by trying to prove to the world that they are the cat's *** while people who can find paths to true happiness, whatever they may be, are simply objects of envy to be denigrated out of jealousy and self-loathing.

I'm NOT Christian, but I think that there's absolutely NOTHING wrong with being christian.
I think a lot of people could benefit from a little Christianity in their lives.
The only thing that bothers me about any religion is when people try to force their views on you.

People equate Christianity with a lot of negative things -- homophobia, hatred towards other religious groups, self-righteousness, the atrocities of the Crusades ... its a lot of baggage to accept.

I know one big reason why: Because Institutions of Higher Learning (what a joke!) have systematically attacked Christianity and indoctrinated their minds-full-of-mush students into believing this garbage. Most Christianity-attackers come out of a post-christian cultural situation in which blaming Christianity for everything is acceptable and politically correct. In fact, bigotry against Christians (and especially Catholic Christians) is one of the last acceptable prejudices in America. If you insult a homosexual or a Muslim you have commited a hate crime. Insult a Christian and you're a hero at UC Berkeley. These attacks are better proof than any other proof I know of that Christanity is the true religion: Why else would the world attack it so hard?

Never question your spirituality. If God is what you believe in, then that's it. Don't worry about all of the negative comments that people give you. It's on their soul when they die and have to answer to God for their sins. Do what God wants to you do. Praise Him and give Him all of the glory that He deserves. They will have to answer for each negative remark that they make about Him. Just keep yourself in order.

Well, I called myself a Christian until I came on this site about 2 years ago and realized for the first time in my life that most of us who called ourselves Christian were really simply explaining Christianity as the way our Christian Church had explained it to us.
And, just how was that? Our Christian Churches constantly use Paul's letters to explain what it means to be a Christian.
The Atheists and agnostics on this site quickly pointed out that Paul's teachings are not limited to Jesus' teachings (to say the least). And that many times Paul Just expoused things that were rather diametrically opposed to the teachings of Jesus (things that would grow Paul's empire, and legacy, and control of his congregations). I am not going to enumerate, I am sure you have heard them all before, and We have heard how the church empires have explained them away as being somehow compatible with what Jesus would have said, if Jesus had more time, or what Jesus really meant when he gave his sermons.
The Church empires have had 2000 years to cover themselves in reinterpretations and spinning translations in order to support Paul's teachings instead of Jesus' sermons - so to say. ..... And when your heart disagrees with Paul's conclusions. .... Paul and some other early church leaders simply tell you "Do not lean on your own understandings" --- All of Jesus' sermons preached to your heart and witnessed their validity by encouraging you to "lean on your own understandings"
In short: I am a Red-letter Christian. I trust only the actual advice and sermons of Jesus. **And, the Holy Spirit visits me just fine ** And, I am very suspicious of all other Bible verses? Why? Cause it seems most other verses were written by authors with their own agenda as to how to control their congregations.
Now, when someone tells me they are a "Christian", I brace myself to hear their quoting of Paul's letters, and verbiage that makes me ill when I compare that verbiage with the sermons of Jesus.
(Actually Jesus taught us about 30 ways of getting to Heaven, Paul and the Church Empires teach only one of those ways. Which is fine for you, but it basically ignores Jesus and his sermons that taught us all those other ways.)
