Depends where you live. I have heard there are some states that require you to and you could receive a ticket if in violation.

My state does not have such a law.

Traffic law is created by the state legislature, so the answer is going to vary depending on where you live. Call your local police department, or go to the library. They should have a copy of your state laws there. You could also do a web search, your state may have their statutes online.

I seriously doubt many states, if any at all, have this law... many women's shoes would be more dangerous than bare feet!

I have been an officer in Wisconsin for 16 years, and we do not have a law on barefoot driving here.

The ticket should cite the vehicle code you supposedly violated. Then go look it up. It may be as vague as something like not maintaining control of your vehicle. I pulled a funny one in court one time.. I asked the judge to have the cop step outside because hearing what I had to say would prejudice his testimony, in other words, he would change his story depending on what I said. Then I asked who was prosecuting the case, The judge said that the cop was. I told him that the cop wasn't an attorney and that California law only allowed attorneys to prosecute for the people. The judge threatened to find me in contempt, but I held my ground. He said that you can't unring a bell (we've always done it this way), so I moved for dismissal.. end of story..

Yes, you can in Virginia and Wisconsin anyway. Those are the only states I am sure about, since I grew up in Wisconsin and took my drivers test there, then moved to Virginia.

i hope not, because every time i wear heels to work i drive barefoot. my question to you though is, how are police going to know if you have shoes on or not? are you driving with your bare feet hanging out the window? or do you think police have super duper binoculars where they can see onto the floor of your car?

a simple solution to your problem would be if you get pulled over, just throw on a pair of flip flops before the cop makes it to your door.

There is no law against it in Missouri for sure.

I have never been shown a law from any state requiring shoes to drive.
