CutePDF Writer (formerly CutePDF Printer) is the free version of commercial PDF creation software. CutePDF Writer installs itself as a "printer subsystem". This enables virtually any Windows applications (must be able to print) to create professional quality PDF documents - with just a push of a button! FREE of charge.
Basically when you press Print, you will have CutePDF as an option to print to, and when you choose this, it will save your document as a PDF document.

Download and install a PDF printer driver (the company I work for sells a program called Solid PDF Creator which performs this task).

In the program that you wish to create the PDF file from, go into File | Print | Select the PDF printer driver and print to it. It's that simple.

1. A PDF file is a "Portable Document Format (PDF), developed by Adobe Systems, Inc. PDF files maintain the original document formatting for both printing and viewing on a multiple computing platforms, including Windows, UNIX and Mac." 2. In order to view a PDF, you need a viewer , either created by Adobe, and available for free download or you can use a viewer created by someone else, such as Foxit , Sumatra, or eXpert. You can create a PDF file using software designed for this purpose, such as Solid PDF Creator V6, Solid PDF Creator Plus V6, Solid Converter PDF V6 or Solid PDF Tools V6.

Open Office allows you to export the files in pdf format. After making the file, the pdf format file cannot be edited. It will be only in 'Read only' format.

There might be some shareware that will take a file and make it a .pdf. The RIGHT way is to buy Adobe Acrobat (not the reader, but the whole application)

You DO NOT have to have Adobe Acrobat, which is VERY expensive, but you do have to have a PDF creator. There is a low-cost but very good alternative - Foxit Software. Foxit Reader is free, but there is an Editor and a Creator, which come with free 30-day trials. You can try them, and if you like them, they are in the price range of $39 instead of $300.

PDF files are created using Adobe Acrobat software. PDF is the file extension like .DOC is for Word. The reader which is free will not let you make files. You have to have the full version which is not free.

Nikki-
two ways to create pdf files:

1. first you must have pdf software (like adobe)
with your document open on your screen, go through the procedure to print...and change printers to the PDF software--
press OK and it will scan....

-or-

2. print your document as normal, and using a scanner - scan it into the computer...it will scan as a pdf.

good luck :)
