The above question is almost a direct quote from a regular here. I have seen this argument more than once in R&S.

Does this argument work? Why or why not?

Can you think of other reasons why the world might attack Christianity?

FYI, crimsonandclover isn't the one who said it.

This is the same false argument along the "chosen people" lines.

Think about it. God is the creator of a universe so vast it is nearly beyond our comprehension when we simply try to count the stars.

He created each and every one of the 6 billion inhabitants of this world - with all their variety of theologies, mystical and religious beliefs. Every single one of us are God's children.

If you had two children, and one said they believed the best way to accomplish a task was through competition, and the other said they believed the best way was through cooperation, would you love one child less than the other?

From God's perspective there are only two groupings of consciousness that matter - the individual human soul, and the totality of all human souls - man and mankind.

All other groupings, whether based on belief systems, geographic locations, skin color, economic status, etc. - are man made groupings and thus temporary and insignificant in the eyes of God.

There is no such thing as a "chosen people" or "true religion". The infinite love of the Creator is the only truth, and we are all chosen individually. God simply waits for us to choose Him in return by expressing the same love to all of his creatures that He has for us.

As for the world attacking Christianity - have you heard the attacks our Christian leaders are leveling against the followers of Islam?

This is a universal problem of hating our fellow humans because they are somehow different from us. It is not limited to any one religion, race, creed, nation, etc. It is a sickness that infects all of mankind - though many are awakening from the nightmare.

Having been agnostic and now Christian I can tell you that no one cared how I believed until I was a Christian . As long as I was just as screwed up and disillusioned as most of the world is everybody left me alone, now that I am a Christian everyone has something to say about it when they find out and some have even refused to be friends because of it. I am not even one of those people who force it on you, I figure if you can't see a difference in my life and want to know why then you are not ready to hear it so why tell it. I have also seen through history to present day how Jews have always been singled out for the worlds abuse, by the darker forces of the world. Is this a coincidence, I'm thinking it isn't.

That's funny. Why do christians (not all christians) feel the need to try and push their religion on people? The reality (in my opinion) is that religion is based on your own perception. God made us different, thus different ways of taste, touch, smell, audibles, and perceptions. Although other religiions try hard to make others see thier way (everyone has had the Jehovah's Witness knock on their door) Christians have made thier religion the standard of society: A society that supposedly grants us freedom of religion, yet if you stray from the norm (christiainity) you are judged.

Think of it as Karma, the Christians have punished others "in the name of their religion," and now they are reaping what they sowed.

Also, Christians attack Muslims the most. Think about it for a second, didn't Isaac and Ishmael come from the same person? And if Islam was so bad, then how come God chose to bless Ishmael and his descendants? If you are going to lean on your religion, make sure you know it thoroughly.

Can you think of other reasons why the world might attack Christianity? Uh, you can't be serious? I'd think the answer would be rather apparent. (OK, I know that you are serious, just had to be a bit sarcastic).

I'm not sure that we can say that Christianity is the most or hardest attacked as many religions have been persecuted as well as many races, some have been completely wiped out - the Carpathians and Gnostics come to mind.

I don't care if people believe, but I don't want their morals to be laws or fairy tales taught as science.

No, this is a poor attempt. Christians have many 'arguments' that they think back their claims, however, they are typically very close-minded and lack logical observation.
We could use the same criteria and say the Jewish faith is the truth because everybody attacks them. The Koran demonizes Jews and so does the Christian N.T. We could also do the same with Islam.

This isn't a good argument at all.

Well just because a mass of people believe something does not mean that it is true and is not the sole reason people attack it. It does effect the frequency people attack it because of it is popular. Yet the reason they attack is more for reasons because they do not think it is true or perceive it in a negative light.

Most people want to believe the truth, so they wouldn't attack it if it was the truth. There are a few who are against it because it makes them feel conscious about their life choices or worry them about life after dearth but this would be only a "few".

I think that this argument only serves to affirm other fundaMENTAL christians, but it does nothing to convince any thinking individual. Christianity as a whole has a severe persecution complex. Remember, martyrdom is glorified in their faith. This argument presents a whiny, juvenile response to being questioned.

The world is not attacking Christianity....yet. This is prevaricating at it's best. However, we are slowing moving into a place where bloody dogma, fear, utter control and antiquated desert morality are no longer needed. For example....we no longer endorse slavery even though the bible clearly approves of it. Even the christians are outgrowing their own book! We will outgrow the judeo-christian religions in time, however it will be a bumpy road until we do.

The argument can not work since they really are not being attacked.

The USA has perhaps the largest christian community in the world. The them being asked to grant the same rights to other religions or no religion is an attack. People love keeping their exalted status and consider any movement to grant equality as a personal attack.

Because no other religion in the world has attacked others in the way that Christianity has. Even Islamic terrorism is a more modern phenomena. Christianity has been attacking, murdering, raping, pillaging, and forcefully converting people for well over 1000 years, now. In modern times they can't do that as much anymore, but they still try to take over everything by making laws based on their religion, and harassment of people in their homes, as well as trying to insert their religion into our school science classes. No other religion holds up progress in medicine the way that Christianity does. Atheists are *still* physically attacked and their property damaged by "loving" Christians right here in the U.S. Anyone who tries to deny that--I dare you to put an atheist bumper-sticker on your car, and wait and see how long it takes before your car is damaged.

That's the argument from the inside looking out to justify remaining christian. "Oh, i must be right since the bible says we will be persecuted and here is the persecution!"

The reason why anyone attacks christianity (or any other religion) is because it's a meaningless waste that divides and dumbs down humanity. It slows and in some cases even HALTS progress as a society and it gives people power over others.
