discs, and without typying MSconfig in Run (because that file is awol)?

You need to detail the exact error(s). Often system32 errors are not caused by Windows itself, but by other software that has been added since Windows was installed. Without the message(s) there is not way to guess the problem. Or it could be a problem with Windows itself, which will normally require a Windows CD to repair.
