I have a nice, straight smile thanks to braces years ago. However, my front right tooth tends to move forward. My dog chewed up my invisalign retainer last year, and now a gap has grown from the tooth moving.

My insurance will not cover orthodontia, so would a dentist fit me with a retainer at a more reasonable cost?

What are my alternatives or options? Thanks.

I had the same problem, dentist said it was due to tongue thrust moving one of the front teeth forward slightly causing a gap between the two.
The dentist wired the two teeth together (small canal was made in each tooth so the wire would lay flat then the surface (front and back) was bonded. I've had it for about 18 years now and it still looks good and the teeth are completely together. Only problem is the bonding tends to stain so you have to keep it clean and/or have it cleaned more often. The dentist can always apply more bonding if required.

Go to this guy and get the custom molded whitening trays. They are exactly like the Invisalign retainers but a fraction of the cost - wear them at night. Your teeth will continue to shift, so get it done now before they get worse. Believe me, my teeth wanted to go back to their original locations and I wish I had done something sooner.

Get the gap filled! Probably cheaper then getting braces and retainers... and you will get immediate results!

you should call your orthidontist and ask them how much it would cost for you to get fitted for a retainer... dentist's don't have anything to do with braces or retainers ... you just need to do some calling around and see for yourself

retainers dont do anything for gaps. the orthodontist put braces on and rubberbands to close the gap.

the best person to ask is an actual dentist, just call one up an ask 'em. seems like you should be able to get fitted for another retainer for a somewhat low price.

good luck~

A small gap like that is easily treated by Vaneers, they are fitted to your teeth and close the gap with out looking out of place. Porcelain veneers Veneers are commonly used to close a gap between two front teeth (diastema), but if the gap is too large, the veneers used to the close the gap will be disproportionately wide compared to the rest of the natural teeth. This could leave the smile looking unnatural, whereas one of the aims of cosmetic dentistry is to create a beautiful and natural look. Veneers offer a more robust solution than composite bonding; however, the teeth need to be prepared, which means that healthy tooth structure must be removed to allow the veneers to be fitted over the front surfaces of the teeth. Cosmetic bonding or composite veneers If the gap between the two teeth is very small, closing the gap with composite bonding provides a quick solution to the problem. Bonding provides a minimally invasive solution to closing the gap. However, the drawbacks with bonding are that it does not last very long and will eventually need to be redone. Boning material is also susceptible to staining and may show up after some time.
