Did you try looking at the steering coupler to see if it was worn?tighten the adjuster nut on the steering box
1. Find the center of the steering gear travel by rotating the steering wheel completely to the left then, rotate the steering wheel to the right while counting the numbers of turns required to reach the end of travel.
2. Rotate the steering wheel to the left 1/2 the number of turns counted in the previous step. This position should be the center of the steering gear travel
3 Loosen the locknut on the pitman shaft adjuster screw Make sure the adjuster screw is held and does not turn with the locknut
4. Turn the adjuster screw in approximately 1/8 of a turn. While holding the adjuster screw, tighten the adjuster screw locknut.
5. Road test the vehicle to determine if the over-center adjustment has corrected vehicle wander. If vehicle wander still occurs, repeat steps 1-5.
it's very hard to explain..i actually have to be there but hope this helps..

RE:
How do i tighten the steering box on my 98 dodge ram?
I have a 98 dodge ram with really sloppy steering ive messed with everything the pitkin arm, tierods, tracbar and still the steering is sloppy. I was told there is a way to tighten the steering box up with a allen wrench and a 15mm wrench any suggestions?

The adjuster is on top of the steering unit. the unit is next to the left of the radiator. With the wheels off the ground, wheels straight ahead, and engine running, loosen the jam nut on the bolt sticking out of the top of the 'box'. While holding the jam nut, use the allen wrench to screw in the bolt a little at a time. About a quarter of an inch. Check the steering wheel by moving it from straight ahead to the right and left to see if there is a tight place in the steering. Keep tightening the bolt with the hex wrench a little at a time until you feel a slight drag turning the wheel left to right. Then hold the allen wrench and tighten the jam nut. Be sure that you don't adjust the bolt to much or you will fell a tight spot in the steering while you drive.

loosen the center nut,and tighten it one 1/4 of a turn at a time, don't tighten it a lot all the sudden,do it in stages, until you remove the play in it,too much and it will cut in to the worm gear that's in the gear box,you only need a small amount to remove the play, good luck.

I would say the best way to improve your situation is to add an additional brace attaching the steering box to the frame.
