Itching is a sign that it is healing of course but the swelling could mean your allergic to the ink and or the ointment ur using. Having over 20 tats myself I recommend daily cleaning and A&D ointment or baby oil.. NEVER used vaseline. The swelloning should go down when you apply cold water to it after you wash it lightly with non fragrant soap. Keep the tattoo from drying out.. should all be well in another week! good luck!

Itching and a little swelling is normal in any wound that is healing. You shouldn't worry about it; just remember not to scratch it. Apply a small amount of lotion when it starts itching. I use Curel Ultra Healing. The moisture from lotion will give you some temporary relief.

DON'T scratch it. its in the final healing stage. it will itch like a mother because the skin is really dry. try using cocoa butter lotion. it always helped with mine. a week after you get it you should stop putting ointment on it and start putting lotion on it.
and NEVER use neosporin. its an anti biotic and a scar reducer. the only thing it will do is fade your tattoo and make it look old and not very good. hope that helps.

healing tattoos itch, it's just a fact of life and you have to deal with it without scratching. you can put an ice pack wrapped in a towel on it to help with any itching but mostly you just have to let it itch.

Itching is just part of the healing process. As for lotion, you should be using a non-fragrant and non-colored lotion like Lubriderm. Apply the lotion lightly and don't rub hard on your skin.

I think that you may be allergic to the ink and that also yu could be allergic to the ointment. What king are you using? The best thing to use is lotion and gelled baby oil or vasiline. That helps for the swelling and also the burning after the tattoo. trust me I have 5 so I should Know. Maybe try some neosporin(if I spelled that right) that'll help. Daily try to lotion with the plain(non-fragrance lotion) and the baby-oil that will help the tattoo ink to not fade out.
