Ironically, this question sounds like it has some bitterness behind it.

>Does being an atheist require . . .?
>Being ever-cynical, bitter?
No. Anyone telling you that atheists are sad, lonely people or that they have no morals doesn't know what they're talking about. We aren't bitter by nature, but one good way to make us angry is to accuse us of being so.
>Is that how our early "ape" ancestors were? Angry and bitter?
Probably not.
>Is that what atheists aspire to be?
Not at all! On the contrary, atheists often have more ambition for what to become than religious people do. Many religious people believe that all they have to do is be good and repent for their sins and they'll go to Heaven after a few more decades, whereas atheists don't expect anything after death and thus have much more incentive to actively advance our civilization and society rather than just sitting around being good.

Whatever honey. Think what you like, you've already made your mind up, but the fact is that some of the happiest, fun loving people I know are Atheists. Being a cynic does not mean you are bitter. All we aspire to be is better people. Not something that is in the Christian doctrine.
But I feel sorry for you. It must be a sad life thinking you're constantly being watched by a man with a beards. :P

What a strange question. Being an atheist just means that you don't believe in God. You can still be a caring, helpful person if you are an atheist. You don't have to be cynical, bitter etc. Wish I knew why you asked this question?

Of course it is not required, but being bitter or cynical often comes with being the outsider in a society that supports what you do not support. It can, at times, be quite trying to be a logical atheist dealing with silly Christians.
Cute question, though.

No I think that Atheists just don't believe in G-d. WHY do they HAVE TO? I think they have a right to live how they want to, and I do not think that G-d will punish them if they choose to live that way. I think that people who hate atheists because they don't belive in g-d is really sad that they can't be open to other culture's and religions. I don't think it has ANYTHING to do w/ being Angry and Bitter...whomever you think is, just is angry and bitter for other reasons. There is more to life than religion, and i think it is sad when it rules a person's life. However having it a part of their life is of course more than ok...just not take over - I think that Atheists are bitter that many religions people are close-minded to THEIR way of life and thoughts on religion...and that causes a problem.

Hey, at least you spelled "atheist" right.
I'm not angry and bitter. What makes you think so? I couldn't possibly be happy without believing as you do?
And even though evolution as such has nothing to do with atheism as such, yes, I DO "accept" evolution as a fact of nature - but I don't see why that automatically means that life is meaningless and void, because we evolved rather than being sculpted from the mud and breathed upon by a gaseous Vertebrate.

Uh, no.
Whoever told you all atheists were cynical and bitter was lying to you.
If you could read, you'd see a lot of happy and non-cynical atheists on this site.
But I guess you hate dealing with reality and prefer to live your life with big blinders on.
Most atheist I know are cheerful and positive.
The ones I know who are bitter were victims of emotional abuse through religion in childhood. I can understand the bitterness they feel (though I wish they could heal and move on).

No, it requires none of the above.
It is perfectly possible to enjoy the beauty of life and nature without subscribing to the belief that it was all created by a supreme being.
There is actually a lot of awe and wonder to be had in the thought that so many fantastic things came about by chance and evolution.
The world is full of wonderful things that can be enjoyed in so many ways, and in no way does this hinge on where you believe they all came from.

Being an atheist requires one to think in terms of only what one can experience with their senses.
This rules out all higher learning~
There is really no such thing as an atheist. An Atheist is the opposite of a Theist.
Atheist really means "No-Godist" and that just sounds lame.
Someone who identifies with being a no-something is really a nothing.
Ironically in Arabic, the word "Allah" means "The Nothing"

I know many atheists who are quite happy and content and not cynical. I also know many so calle 'Christians' especially the legalistic evangelical types who are cynical to a fault.
People are people and personality has more to do with cynicism than does religion or lack thereof.
