Take time out of your days to stop and think in quiet. We live in such a loud, multimedia world that it's hard for a lot of people to stop and just think for themselves. But it's important!
You won't get better unless you force yourself to practice.

I understand what you mean, are you the youngest child per chance? do you feel like you are always the one that gives in or goes w/the flow and people can depend on that in you? if so, i suggest the book (and I suggest it a lot) Co-Dependent No More by Melody Beattie. It tells you how to be okay with having your own opinions and reactions. Many times, in our lives, if you have or do play this role, then you simply have forgotten to listen to yourself and what you really feel that you just stopped. But, you didn't stop, your voice is still in there. I agree with another answerer a/b how the 1st step is recognizing that you do this. Watch your triggers. You'll find patterns of when you begin playing into this role. Just try to stop yourself, but it's not going to be easy to begin with. Once you are triggered, it is hard to not be. So, you will slowly begin to train yourself to react BEFORE you are triggered into your "role". Just keep working at it. I am slowly stopping these behaviors myself and it has taken a long time and I will continue working on it b/c freedom comes with it. If you need any further advice or just want to talk a/b it, feel free to email me!

You are talking about one to the greatest lesson of life. Some learn at 7 some learn at 70 or somewhere in between. The best part is that you are aware of what is happening. The first step to being able to change. I was once told that I needed to stop looking out side myself and "be present" within who I am. The most important words were be present for me. Every time you make a decision yourself, whether you fail or succeed you are growing and gaining strength to exist as a unique capable individual in this big wide world. Good for you that you are asking questions. There are programs at places like OnSite where you work with horses and learn so much about you. It might be something of interest. Ciao

You've already done the first thing, which is to recognize that you are easily influenced. The second thing, in my opinion, would be to decide by whom you wish to be influenced. That is, choose as a mentor someone whose judgment you really trust. Third, ask that mentor to help you become more independent-minded and not so easily influenced. When you are able to disagree with your mentor, you've learned the trick!
