...Islam is not a new religion; it is not a different religion. It is in essence the same religion that Allah (or “God”) sent to all mankind through all His prophets at different times in history - the religion that had unfortunately been changed through human adulterations, theology and philosophy. That is why the Prophet Muhammad came as the last and final prophet and messenger of Allah. He needed to come to remove all the riddles and confusion in the lives of people. He corrected matters of diversion in belief that were introduced by confusing human philosophy and theology. He restored the pure monotheistic belief of our Creator and brought the most perfect and most noble understanding of Allah (or “God”).
The purpose of life is to know Allah, to believe in Him and to worship Him according to how He wants to be worshipped, this includes that we live our lives according to His commands. In the Quran, Allah tells us that since the messages of all prophets before the Prophet Muhammad have been distorted, none of these objectives could be achieved correctly except through His last and final message, and therefore He will judge people on the Day of Judgment based on whether they believed and followed Islam. Allah says:
Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam. (Quran, 3:19)
In the same chapter Allah declares:
And whoever desires other than Islam as religion - never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers (in the Hellfire). (Quran, 3:85)
Muslims believe that the present life is a trial in preparation for the next realm of existence. Muslims know that man was not created merely for this worldly life; rather this world was created for man. ...
---
Allah tells us in the Quran that He never punishes a nation until after He has sent a messenger with the clear message of "Worship your Creator and Sustainer alone without partners."
The Quran does not tell us that everyone who didn't believe in Muhammad, peace be upon him, is going to Hell. The Quran tells us that Allah created us in a test, here on earth. The test is to see (for us to see) who is the best in worship of Allah. The translation more or less, says, "Allah has only created you to worship Him." [Quran 51:56]
He also tells us that, He does not forgive anyone to set up partners with Him in worship, but anything less than that He can forgive.
Notice too, in the Quran that Allah gives many examples of people who lived before Muhammad, peace be upon him, that did go to Paradise, because they believed in the current prophet that had been sent to them and obeyed God and their prophet. That is the meaning of "Islam." A person who never heard of any prophet, yet they believed in God as the Creator, Sustainer of them and the universe and tried to worship Him according to whatever Allah let them know, it would be up to Allah to know what is in their hearts and what is in their minds and He is their ultimate Judge, and this is one of His Attributes or beautiful names, "Al Hakeem" (The Judge).
He also says that He does not punish for what people do not know or what is beyond their control or ability. In other words, He is most Fair. And that also happens to be one of His beautiful Names and Characteristics, "Al-Adil" The Just.

I think I understand where you are coming from.
It is The Creator, Himself, who decides who is right and who is wrong and who will go where.
You mention about "little difference". Yet, maybe that little difference is in fact a big difference which is perceived as being vital.
Different people have different perceptions of reality.
I was, and am, a seeker of truth. I came to Islam as a seeker of truth ; I am learning about Islam as a seeker of truth ; and I am understanding Islam as a seeker of truth.
May I offer some advise from a human to other humans?
Be very, very skeptical. Ask questions and keep asking questions. But, be open to new information. Seek out information/knowledge for it's own sake. Be willing to be open to new things. (I was raised in The U.S. with middle-class European American values. Some of those values have been verified by my life experiences, where as others have been invalidated by life experiences. There are, indeed, cultural values in the U.S. which are contrary to some of the teachings of Islam. Yet, I find that I am in disagreement with those same cultural values -that are contrary to Islam- and have been since my childhood.)
I can, and do, understand some of the negative feelings that some Americans have about Islam. (For example, Islam encourages modesty in both clothes and behavior. While the American culture discourages such modesty.) Some negative feelings come from one's own cultural background, while others come from ignorance and prejudice.
I encourage openness and the willingness to listen and learn from others.
Seek out knowledge, for the sake of knowledge. Ask The Creator, Himself, for guidance.... for it's own sake. Be willing to accept new and different ideas.
Islam teaches us Muslims to reflect ...to use our brain.
As a Muslim, I encourage everyone to be a seeker of truth- for everyone to ask The Creator for guidance.
It is The Creator, Himself, who will judge ALL of us.
Peace

Jesus said "I am the way and the truth and the life, anyone who has seen me has seen the Father"
Jews believe in God,
Muslims believe in God.
It is not enough to believe in God.
God promised a Savior
and He sent Jesus.
Jesus died on the cross for mankinds iniquities,
it is a free gift if people will accept.

I'm a Christian (Catholic) and I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT MY RELIGION IS BEST, nor do I believe that ONLY 'Catholics' or only 'Christians' will go to Heaven! I've studied ALL religions (even Atheism and Agnosticism) and I've found that the 'truth' is in ALL of them (although it's very difficult to find in Atheism and Agnosticism) but in such a different 'syntax' that it's very difficult to see it is basically THE SAME thing, just 'stated' differently.
I believe that we are ALL going to go to Heaven ... and I believe that it's just one 'tiny' thing in the Christian Bible that makes this so difficult to say. In the Bible it says that Jesus died for ALL of our sins ... and most people think that means he died ONLY for the sins of those who 'follow him' ... but the Bible also 'says' (although not very clearly) that when Jesus died he saved not only those who 'came after' him, but those who came before him, too. God is 'outside of time and space' and I can see God doing this to save ALL of us ... not just the 'few' Christians who 'believe' in Jesus (and we have some of the worst 'disagreements,' even among ourselves, as to 'who goes' and 'who doesn't go' to Heaven). I think that even the 'worst' of us ... the serial killers, rapists, etc. will eventually go to Heaven ... they just may have to do 'some time' in Purgatory/Hell to 'learn the lessons' they didn't learn here while 'alive' in this universe. I KNOW I'm going to Heaven ... and I'll see YOU there! Then we will learn 'the rest of the story.'

It depends on who you ask. There are so many different interpretations of various scriptures and religious works, that you can use the bible, koran, etc, to justify any point of view you might have. For instance, Jehova's Wittnesses are Christians who genuinely believe that only 144,000 people are getting into heaven. That leaves A LOT of people out.
But depending on your interpretation of who God is and what he is all about, you might feel very differently.

I’m a Christian, but I don’t believe people who don’t believe in Jesus as their Savior will burn in hell.
I think people would be much happier and fulfilled having Christ in their life, but that is only my opinion.
What it all come down to?
What happens after this life is up to God and the person.
Period.
NO ONE has the right to say someone else's belief system is wrong and that theirs is the only right one.
Too many peoples, cultures, societies, etc.
As long as people are following the *Golden Rule* (Love/treat one another as you want to be loved/treated yourself), well, that should be enough.
But don’t listen to me!
Talk to YOUR GOD (whoever that is) about your own personal salvation!
:)

I am christian, and that is just Hog Wash. Its politics from the ancient world to keep people in check, and reasons to start wars with someone. I am sure if GOD heard someone putting someone else down for not believing, I am sure the Nickles in his piggy bank would be endless, and we would all be in hell because of all these accusations.
