what section do you think we, as atheists, should go to discuss, ask and answer questions on philosophies of life?

I have always thought there are two kinds of forums when it comes to discussing religion or philosophy or even politics, a bar and a church.

A bar is a place you go where everyone has his own ideas, where you express your ideas and expect to have them challenged, and to have to defend them. A church is a place you go to be surrounded with people who think just as you do, and you congratulate each other for getting it right and you reinforce each other's beliefs.

The thing is, atheists don't have churches! In order to have a church situation you have to have a lot of people who think and believe almost exactly alike. To a freethinker, the whole idea seems ridiculous, doesn't it? I mean, could you have a Y/A section on atheism where atheists go to talk about all the stuff they -don't- believe? 8^)

Of course if you go to the Religion section, religious people feel as if you're invading their church. You wouldn't go to a church and stand up and tell people what you don't believe. They will protest 'This section is for RELIGIOUS people!' Most of them don't want an open forum where beliefs are challenged! (to be fair, some do)

But it is a free forum, so that's where you go. Someone who is secure in his belief ought to be able to handle it.

They've got a section for bullfighting so maybe we could ask them for a philosophy section? Never hurts to ask....

It'd be cool if they did, then we could post questions everyday about why christians find it necessary to hang out on the phil section when they have their own...

wait there's a philosophy section?? see ya!!

For philosophical matters not directly relating to religion, I would suggest using the Philosophy category.

There is a philosophy section on YA, but I think that's redundant and pointless - all discussion is philosophy.

If your question has a religious flavour, ask it here.

Here's good, or Philosophy. That's a subheading under *wait while I open another window and go check* Arts & Humanities.
