I am afraid nothing has been shown to reduce the duration of cold, though simple remedies like paracetamol, ibuprofen and decongestants may reduce symptoms. It is important to take plenty of fluids to help reduce fever and make up for the extra losses from sweating.
Specifically antibiotics, a grove of lemons, 2 hives of honey and 3 Holland and Barrett's shops full of vitamins and echinacea, have no effect at all.

EAT CHICKEN SOUP. Mom was right: A Nebraska Medical Center Study shows that the broth reduces inflammation and inhibits the activity of neutrophils, the white blood cells that may increase mucus production.
TRY GINSENG. People who took 200mg of ginseng twice daily during cold and flu season had shorter colds than those who just popped a placebo, according to a study performed at the University of Alberta, Canada.
STAY IN BED. If your body is exhausted, it will be that much harder for it to fight the virus. If you must go to work, at least get a good night's rest: People who sleep four hours a night have weaker immune systems than those who get a seven and a half to eight and a half hours, according to a University of Chicago study

What has always worked for me and usually overnight, is just sweating it out. Your body only has two ways to expel toxins: sweat and urination. Drink lots of fluids put on your sweats bundle up in a blanket and lay down and watch t.v. and go to sleep you may try taking a hot shower first. Try not to get up and move around it will create a chill and just slow the process down. Good luck. Hope you start feeling better soon.

Build up your immune system by getting lots of vitamin C! (This can be found in things like oranges)
You cant take medication to get rid of a cold im afraid, you have to wait for it to pass. Inside your body white blood cells fight the cold and make enzymes which make you immune to getting that cold again!

just take capsules (either lem sip or night and day) to alleviate the symptoms. The cold will just need to run its course.
To avoid colds, wash your hands regularly and try to avoid putting your hands to your face. Germs are usually spread when a person with a cold touches something, and someone else touches the same thing and then puts their hands to their face.
