There is an exception.

If the hole in one is made while playing a round of golf, the prize may exceed the $750 value.

It has to take place on a golf course, and you are not allowed to take multiple shots to try to make the hole in one.

John F your answer is correct. The rule does say that a hole in one has the exception to the limit. So, there is no limit and it doesn't effect your amateur status. I hope it's a new car you won. :-)

One additional detail... one would only loose their amateur status if they accepted the prize. This may seem like a technicality, but in the eyes of the USGA, it is a valid point.

you're asking...."will AN amateur LOSE his amateur status IF he makes a hole in one, and the PRIZE money is more than..?" the answer is yes. and $750.00 is the limit. you should consider a course in grammar.
