Respiration releases stored chemical energy for growth and development. C6H12O6 + 6O2 = 6CO2 + 6H2O + ENERGY
Stored sugar and oxygen is used releasing the energy, carbon dioxide, and water. All cells operate with this energy even without sunlight.
