I've been told that my lack of faith could cause god to kill people in my family in order to get my attention, and that god could use my wife and child, for example, as a way of forcing me to go to him (i.e. he would make them sick or kill them to get me to believe in him). You've probably already guessed, it was a devout christian that told me this. I told them that if that's how god gets people to believe in him, I'd rather join his enemy and try to take him out, this kind of god is not mature enough to handle that type of power.

If thats the worst thing you've ever been told, you're lucky.
When hurricane katrina happened my husband lost everything he owned except his car and a suitcase of clothing.
I've been told he deserved it because he lived in New Orleans. Not because he'd done anything wrong, but because New Orleans is called Sin City.
My husband doesn't drink, smoke, or do drugs, he's had a steady job for the last 15 years in the same business with various promotions through the years, has never had a criminal record of any sort (he doesn't even download movies from the net) and is basically a better person than most Christians I've ever met.
Yet, somehow, the Christians decided that he deserved it because he lived in New Orleans. And I've been told that more than once.
I have friends there, and now I have family. I love that city as though it were my home. And those bloody Christians are saying the people who lived there deserved. Not all Christians are doing it but enough are that it drives me nuts.
Never have I wanted to punch anyone more than I have at the times I've heard that.
I think that has to be the worst though there are others that come close.

This was in my 'I guess I'm spiritual, and not religious' phase (when I was 15 years old). A group of (four or so) stood around me and said:
'It doesn't matter if you're Native American. If you believe what they believed, you're going to go to hell. They were wrong. Jesus is the only way.'
Oh! Also, while my wife and I were having a nice lunch, laughing and talking, three of them came up to the table. They had noticed the upsidedown cross tattooed on my wife's leg. They then insisted that she was in a lot of pain, and that she should go to their church. She kept telling them no, and that she was pretty happy, but they just kept 'empathizing' with her. Gross.

That I'd go to Hell, that I don't understand anything about ____ religion, that I would be infertile forever for taking prescription drugs, that I have no sense of morality, that I support terrorists, I really just haven't found God yet, the reason my speaking skills aren't the best is because I haven't been saved....

I was at my fathers grave site and a Christian asked me what religion he was. When I told the Christian he was an atheist the Christian told me my father who was one of the most decent people I have ever met was burning in hell.
Christianity as espoused by people like John D below is sick and disgusting. The claim that everyone deserves eternal torture is simply sick and immoral.

That they were moving in down the street.
It's a Christians pastor. He seldom shovels his sidewalk, his yard looks like crap... When he has people over they park in front of our driveways. In the last year I've had 3 cars towed.
