Christians of all denominations, protestant and catholic; jews and muslims. All descedants of the children of Abraham, or Ibrahim if you prefer. All with the same origins. All with the same lineage. All with the same monotheistic deity. Yet, sadly unable to peacefully co-exist because all their leaders want to recognize is their petty differences.

Unable to peacefully co-exist?

I am a Roman Catholic who has peacefully existed in America with Jews and Protestants of all denominations. Can you tell me where the religious wars are occuring in your country?

And since when are doctrinal differences "petty"? Truth is not petty. Truth is something we should all seek and when we find it, we should want others to possess it, too.

There WAS one Church in the beginning - the Catholic Church. There have been many divisions since then. That is the sad part.

I pray constantly for unity - that all will one day return to the fold of the Catholic Church, the Church that Jesus founded.

You are correct about the sad situation of religious tolerance in the world. Unfortunately though, one of the "petty differences" that exists between Christianity and Islam is that BOTH religions claim that only their religion leads to salvation. That is hard to overcome. Jews believe that the righteous of the world are saved but still we see conflicts, more political perhaps than religious, but they are still there.
Then you have extremism and fundamentalism. No religion is truly free of these negative influences.

When it comes to religion I think the following quotes aptly describes the situation we have to struggle with:

Men never do evil so thoroughly and cheerfully as when they do it for conscience sake. ~Blaise Pascal, Pensées, 1670

Human beings are perhaps never more frightening than when they are convinced beyond doubt that they are right. ~Laurens van der Post

Soon, I hope.

I agree with you, that since we all worship the same God, we should be loving each other as brothers/sisters and exploring each other's beliefs, not blindly castigating them.

But until people learn to swallow their pride and admit that they do not have the monopoly on God's truth, or the true nature of God, hubris will keep us fighting like silly kids arguing over whose daddy is the strongest.

As soon as others stop condemning us to hell for our differences and realize that God is our judge.
