i've had one all day, right side, hurts more if i let my head lean back, funny thing is i keep leaning it back to see if its still sore, yeah i know i'm stupid. Think its probably a trapped nerve.

O my god I have had the same pain in the back of my neck just at my hairline I have had this since Friday and it feels like I just need to crack my neck but I can't.
Three of my friends also have this same pain and still don't know what it is.
Get well soon..

Try some GENTLE physiotherapy. You may need hot AND cold applications, but first check with a physiotherapist. Should the problem persist and recur, you should have an Xray and/or perhaps an MRI scan(magnetic resonance imaging); to establish whether there is any damage to the discs or any other problem.
note: I find that very CAREFUL Pilates exercises help. Do not lift heavy weights while you are in pain. Also sitting for long periods at the computer (typing, and bad posture) can really aggravate the problem.

I doubt it's a trapped nerve, as I don't think you'd have to check to see if it's still sore. It would be sore all the time & you'd be well aware of it.
You have probably strained a muscle. Try some massage heat packs & take a couple of Ibuprofen. After a few days if it's still sore (i'd give it about a week) ..see your GP!
By the way I'd also take painkillers along with the Ibuprofen as it's more of a muscle relaxant than a pain killer.

I'll go with the ex husband pain in the neck...a very common one...and hard to get rid of.
As far as YOUR pain in the neck.. I'll go with rest, a good pillow and a couple ibuprophin. :o) If not gone in a day or two, or the pain is just too much to handle, go see the doctor.

If you are on a telephone all day ie a call centre it is quite normal to get a pain in the neck.
