The Gadsden Purchase was the second and smaller purchase of land from mexico.
The first purchase came at the end of the Mexican American War which ended in 1848. After defeating Santa Ana for the second time(The Texicans beat him the first time in 1838) the United States gave Mexico 15 million dollars for the lands now known as our southwestern states. The USA also assumed 3 million dollars of Mexicos foreign debt.

Do the conversion to todays dollars.

We bought it, and revisionist history doesn't work.

i do no longer see common common techniques to be puzzled. If China have been to deliver settlers into usa of america, and then whilst usa of america have been given upset, China have been to circulate to conflict with usa of america, and enable's say usa of america is non-interventionist at this element, so as that they could no longer avert it, and China have been to wreck or capture the entire US military and China have been additionally to have their own military with effective weapons geared in the direction of the U. S., and subsequently win a conflict. After the conflict, if the chinese language have been to ask for a million/3 of the U. S. land by potential of way of a treaty, which provides the U. S. $2 billion money in return for chinese language popularity of their new land, you does not call that stealing? according to danger no longer actually stealing, although this is an extortion, it quite is a kind of stealing. i detect it stressful to have faith which you do no longer see how this is a sneaky maneuver. the two you're purposely blocking off out the undesirable area of the story (i assume it rather is the case) or you lack judgment in being waiting to tell whilst somebody is making a speedy circulate on somebody else.

You will hear that commentary mostly in the U.S. by Mexican-Americans who are decendents from immigrants whom lived in extreme poverty in Mexico and cross the border out of desesperation.

However, that is also a commentary made in Mexico out of resentment. Keep in mind that Mexico has 50% of its population below the poverty line and 30%
in extreme poverty, leading, to lack of education in history as well.

If you could see Mexico as an individual you could rate their maturity level as highly dependent.

To answer your question you have to keep in mind that it is very diffcult to define Mexican culture because it has soo many contrast and layers.

In difference to first world nations where hard work, dicipline, effectiveness, team work is celebrated. In Mexico those characteristics are only not rewarded but punished.

Mexico celebrates ethnicity, the closer you are to european origin the better; social status the higher social status your family is the better (difficult to explain but imagine a monarchy); and economic status. Usually the mix of these three or the persuit of one of the other is in order to achieve success in Mexico.

Mexicans are not poor because of lack of resoures, people, geographic situation, or even infrestructure; they are poor because they have a very comformist mentality.

Mexico has vast resources: 7th producer of oil worldwide, 4th exporter to the U.S., neighboor to the biggest market in the world, access to the atlantic and pacific ocean. About 32 climates (you can grow anything here) and 100M people to work. So why the resentment? Mexico has never been an unified country or culture.

Before the spaniards Mexico was in civil war among it's tribes. Native Mexicans are extremely belligerent even today. When aproximately 100 spaniards arrive they conquered Mexico because they were divided already. They took their lands etc. Years after, the independence of Mexico defined the end of Spanish conquest, however, Mexicans were still divided and now mixed with spaniards: a crisis of identity emerged. Years after Mexicans that were mixed with Europeans managed to increase their wealth while the rest didn't. The Revolution came in to settle that difference...Years after same thing occured and the oil industry was expropiated...and then again today: all industries are foreing owned. Why this happens? Because Mexicans are very divided and they are the first to hurt among themselves destroying their own nationalism. Once they realized of their inability to govern they cry for help to foreing nations whom help the restructure for a price.

Ok, now "Why Mexicans lie and say that Americans stole their land?" because of their dependecy. The blame their goverment, americans, politicians, for their own problems but never look for their own solutions from within.

At the time that Mexico sold that land to USA there was a centralist goverment in Mexico where everything was controlled form Mexico City. Now if there were no roads, planes, telephone, fax, etc. then it is very difficult to know what is happening in such an immense piece of land; therefore, selling was the best option. If there was a federal goverment who knows what would happen; however, that was not the case.

Mexico is pretty much the size of Europe and still has a very low quality of life in comparison. So, land is really not an issue. I can definitly assure you that California would not become the 6th economic power in the world if it stayed with Mexico.

So to answer your question. Mexicans lie because they don't want to face their own reality or problems. This way the can justify their own reality and not accountable for their own problems (i.e. is not my fault **fill in the blank** did it)

I know this is a hard and harsh thing to say because there is massive poverty in Mexico. But untli Mexico face it's own problesm history will keep repeating until there is no more resources to save it.

Just like the American Indians of many years ago when people traded land from them. The Indians were a smaller group of people, and had different ideas of what the land was all about.
I don't know how long you have heard that story, but it won't be very many more years until all the states along the Mexican boarders will be made part of or taken over by Mexico. Right now here in the mid part of California, there are more Stores, TV Stations, Radio Stations that the language spoken or understood is Mexican. The biggest problem for me and looks like it is excepted, is the fact that to become a U.S. Citizen the person has to read, write, and speak the English Language, yet alot of places doing business can't understand the people working in them. Our States and Government have also turned their backs on the American People by printing information in the different languages so we don't offend these people of other countries. The printings are of a select group of countries and languages. Lets just say that today it might be the Mexicans telling their stories, but everyday we have many more lies being told by people of other countries coming into American that are taking advantage of the American people. Areas to look at is the Social Security offices, Government loan offices, etc. that these people without speaking English have ways of finding for their needs.

Mexico's history books Do teach that Americans basically stole the land,(I've read them) and that IS taught in the schools here.
All Mexican children are required to go to school here in Mexico and all Mexican children are taught to believe it was USA's skulduggery by which Cal, Ar ,NM, and Texas where stolen.
"History is written by the victorious", but that only means if the victorious completely vanquished the enemy, otherwise there will always be conflicting "histories".
Two good books to read, by both sides of this argument, are "Distant Neighbors" and "Mexico reader"

While that may be true, the dispute is over where the border of that land ends. Mexico claimed that it wasn't the Rio Grande, it was a ways beyond that. America claimed it was the Rio Grande, probably because it makes a good defendable natural border.

How can this land be stolen when the territory was purchased for $15 million under the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo?

Why because this is where the money is. If this were some thrid world country Mexicans would want no part of it. I't's about smoke and mirrors. Mexico also teaches it's ok to sneak across the border breaking US laws.

The Gasden Purchase doesn't have anything to do with it. It is because of the Mexican American war and the Treaty of Gudalupe Hidalgo which gave the US undisputed control of Texas, California, Nevada and Utah and parts of 4 other states. The US had tried to buy this land from Mexico before the war (which was completely trumped up by Whigs and southern Democrats). This war is where the reference to The Halls of Montezuma in the Marine Corps hymn comes from, btw.

We paid about $15 mill for the land - less than half of what we offered before the war.

I'm not saying we stole it. But maybe it fell off a truck?
