All cats will do this. Sometimes the way they are being petted gets to be overwhelming to their pleasure center, so they can't take it any more and want you to stop. That's when they take a little bite at you.

It's sort of like being tickled a lot. At first you laugh but after awhile it gets to be too much and it feels like torture.

I can't believe I wrote n*i*p instead of take a little bite and it censored the word.

Cats are wild in nature having been domesticated late in history as compared to dogs. The bite is playful and or a natural reaction to the feeling the cat has from being petted. A cat has few ways to show its appreciation and biting is one of them as long as it does not break skin. Trust me, if the cat were upset it would do more than bite. Also, as time goes by the behavior will become worse unless something is done. One possible way of showing that biting is not ok is to flick the cat on the nose when it bites, **BUT don't stop petting it if you can. The cat needs to associate the pain in its nose with the biting and not with the petting. If you stop petting the cat after you flick its nose it will associate the pain with the petting. Action and reaction is what cats are familiar with. Keep that in mind and you can break your feline of most if not all of its nasty little habits.

My cat does the same thing, she will love being fussed for a bit and then she will turn it into a game and start play biting. If your cat starts doing it then just walk way and leave them you can also use a stern voice and say no. Your cat thinks you want to play you need to let him know you are not.

My cat does the same but she did it even before she was spayed. I tried to find out, why she's doing that but couldn't really find answer. I guess, it's just their character, depending on what kind of cat you got. I had a persian mix before and he was the loveliest cat ever. he never bit or scratched. and persians are pretty mallow and calm cats. my new cat-the biting one- is a pixie bob, so a domestic-bob cat mix and I think it's got something to do with that. Anyways we all love her

some cats are very temperamental. they only like being petted a certain way for a certain amount of time, and if you're doing it wrong they could just lash out at you.

this is just their temperament, I call these moody cats. best not to mess with them, even if they seem to want attention.

Its a love bite. He probably doesnt mean to hurt you. But he's showing you affection the way his kind show eachother affection. You have to let him know it bothers you and do soemthing about it until he stops. Blow in his face or something.

I wish I knew, my cat does it too, but he does it to everyone. He just puts his teeth on our hand but doesn't bite down. Sometimes he even is purring when he does it. Maybe it's a sign of affection?

Ah... the love bite... He's just acting out his natural instincts... it's kinda like mating behavior... being fixed doesn't necessarily get rid of the behavior... but anyhow...

Tomcats will bite their mates on the shoulder during mating... it shows dominance and that they are enjoying it...

Does this make any sense?

It is a way of showing affection! If you watch two cats play, they always bite and kick each other! Your kitty loves you!
