You mean to tell me that forcing a wife to drink tainted water if she is suspected of infidelity and then waiting to see if her insides rot out as prescribed in Numbers 5 is sexist?
Or that Paul's belief that women are meant to keep quiet and un opinionated, and are only saved through child birth as listed in 2 Timothy 2:11-15 is also sexist?
I thought it was just God's good ole boy complex showing through.

The Bible is a book of truth, it does not hide or cover up the actions, thoughts or doubts of those in the past, but embraces them, because humans are not perfect. Men and women are not treated equally in the Bible, but that is because men and women are not the same, and that the majority of the Old Testament is made up of history books, telling a different society and time.
Moving away from the religious element of this question, do you really think that men and women can be truly equal, and the same? If you just look at the physical differences you see that there is no way that ALL men and women can do the same things, and mentally, the chemicals in the brain work differently.
Taking those things into account: I believe that God created us, in all details, and in a way to COMPLIMENT each other, not be equal to each other. Study the beginning of Genesis when Adam and Eve were created, Eve was created to be a companion, someone to work along side him.

why do you think God took one of adams ribs to make the women? Why not somewhere near the head of somewhere near the feet? God took the rib that was in the center of the body.
By God taking a rib which is center of the body This shows that Men and women are equal. By not taking from the top Man is not above the women and by not taking something from the feet women is not above man.
This passage your talking about 1 corinthians 14:34 is talking about the Corinthian church which was noted for the chaos and lack of order that was rampant in that assembly.
It is interesting that no elders or pastors are mentioned, and the prophets were not even exercising control . Everyone was participating with whatever expression they desired “whenever” they desired. This included tongues and prophesying by women who were taking the lead in the services instead of being submissive, as God’s Word makes clear (1 Tim 2:11-15). Apparently, certain women in the Corinthian church were out of order in disruptively asking questions publicly in the chaotic services
The context of 1 Corinthians 14:33-35 is talking about interpreting and understanding the gifts of tongues and prophecy (1 Corinthians 14:26-32). Therefore, 1 Corinthians 14:34 is not commanding women to be absolutely silent in the church all the time. It is only saying that women should not participate when tongues and/or prophecy is being interpreted and tested

God looks at man and woman equally. It is simply human society that has made man superior to women, for many reasons. Before religion ever begun, cavemen generally did all the hard dangerous stuff like hunt and fish while cavewomen stayed at home tending to the simpler things. Also phyically man looks superior to woman because he is generally stronger, bulkier and more muscular. Also it is a misconception that God made Eve as a helper for Adam when in the Bible it actually means a different thing. All these factors may have influenced the way society has look at women.

PRISCILLA(wife) and AQUILLA(husband).
They were husband and wife (small business tent makers) and among those who assisted Paul in his ministry. Their contribution was SO EQUAL that they are rarely mentioned apart and in fact, PRISCILLA's name is mentioned first when they are mentioned in the Bible.
The fact that Paul even brought up the thing about women being silent in church was unheard of because women until that time had no voice at all. Most men didnt even see the need in 'making this clarification'. The fact that Paul did, in addition to the scriptures regarding a woman submitting to her husband and HE TO HER BY LOVING HER as Christ LOVED the Church were actually steps towards GIVING women a voice. Take all things in context....times have gotten much better.

I dont think women were treated equally in the bible. But remember, those were different times. Things have changed over the years and just b/c it is in the bible doesnt mean it is right or that i how it should be. We dont adhere to the laws in the Old Testament anymore either.

I find that women were being treated fairly in the bible. The custom back in those days were for a woman to feed and produce offspring, not to be educated. Paul was telling the church because women are not EDUCATED they should not speak, because they won't know what they're talking about. He goes on to say, "For it is improper for a woman to speak in the church"- not wrong. So therefore in essence, women were not allowed to speak because they simple didn't know what they were talking about. If they did, they were allowed to speak. As a matter of fact women were judges back in those days. You have Deborah & Ruth. They were educated enough to not only speak in churches well back in those days synagouges but they led a country....

In the Old Testament, and to a lesser extent (hard as that might be to imagine) in the New, women were considered not much more than men's chattel.
Of course that is wrong.
Do you suppose that all Christians are therefore misogynists? And is sexism indigenous only to Christianity?

... great question dude!
We women were created last. So men are above us. That verse means that we shouldn't be the head of the church. Thats the mans job. We're not sexist. But, some of the greatest people in the Bible were women. (i.e. Esther, Mary, Rachel (I just like her), etc.)
I think God doesn't want women to be the head of the church because of... well... you know... pms.

Not a Christian sexist. And those who are not Christian sexist, are so because they understand the history of that time. Women like men must come to Christ the same way, through belief in Jesus Christ. We are to follow the law of the land we live in unless it goes against God's law of love.
