My husband was perfectly fine one minute and the next minute the side of his face, from the front of his ear to the bottom of his jaw swelled up like a balloon. Here's a little background...

He's not been to a dentist in 6 years. He has a loose lower front tooth for quite a while (same side as the swelling). Swelling appeared out of the blue and subsides with ice and IP Profine in 2-3 hours. Swelling re-ocurrs rapidly only while eating.

He finally saw a dentist yesterday, but she found no Periadontal disease. She cleaned and then bonded the loose tooth. No swelling occurred during this session.

As soon as we returned home and he started eating...boom it started again. I'm heading back to the dentist for some antibiotics as I fear he has an infection somewhere and it's dangerous to let an infection go untreated as I know it can spread to the brain.

But any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

i think the problem is because of salivary glands, some times when saliva get viscous some thing like salivary stone will produce whichi blocks the way of saliva to coming out from salivary ducts so every time you eat some thing because salivaproduction gets more due to chewing and etc so it cant come out dute to blocking the way,it become swellen you have to go to the specialist of salivary glands and ducts, they just first take a radiograph(cialogeram)and if it present they just remove the stone and the problem will be gone...dont worry just inform if it really it is

It could be an allergic reaction to the food. Was he eating the same thing when the swelling occur previously? Make a note of the things he ate and through process of elimination you may be able to find the culprit.
I'm sure the dentist took an x-ray of the tooth. The swelling can be a result of an absess so your dentist would have caught it on the x-ray..

He possibly has an allergy to something that he was eating.
It really does not sound like an infection since it swelled up that fast.

Hope all goes well

food allergy see a doctor before it becomes worse and swells his throat. it could also be abscess but if this was true the doctor would see it with a x-ray.
