Then 63% of Americans are smart. Global warming is naturally occuring and man has nothing to do with it. The temperature rises and falls all the time in cycles it has happened before and it is happening again.

Refreshing how? You need to frame the question first.
The word MAJOR is the qualifier. Most Americans believe the BS war in Iraq is a MAJOR issue. This takes precedent at the time.
Another thing to keep in context is that America has a solid history of environmental management. Given some issues with the current administration, we still keep our country relatively clean.
From the article: "the Chinese are far more likely than Americans to cite environmental problems as a top global danger (70% vs. 37%)."
If one would read Elizabeth Economy's "The River Runs Black", one might understand the environmental degradation in China throughout that nation's history then understand why it is such a greater issue in China than the USA.

So what if international warming IS a fact, do you assume that the politicians can opposite it? If CO2 in the ambience is the foremost wrongdoer, how a good number of this is because of the burning of fossil fuels? (answer: 4%) So what are they going to do, whilst CO2 emissions from the sea account for fifty seven% of CO2 in the ambience, and regularly occurring respiratory money owed for 38%, with purely a million% being because of transformations of land use and de-forestation? To make an substantial replace to the known quantity of CO2 in the ambience, no longer to show opposite it, you does no longer be talking in terms of a 10% help in oil or coal intake, or maybe 20%, or maybe 30%. no longer something in need of fifty% is going to have a good number of an consequence, and that should spell economic and social give way. this is somewhat person-friendly to state the obtrusive, in spite of the indisputable fact that it takes somewhat extra sophistication to reach at suitable solutions i'm afraid, and a few human beings strolling to paintings or getting the bicycle out, won't be able to keep the planet. in fact, the elegant obsession with international-warming could be diverting mankind form the extra pressing subjects of over-inhabitants, waste of components, chemical pollution and waste-disposal. besides, all of the western government proceed to hawk the parable of globalisation, neo-liberal economics and the push in the direction of international-huge consumerism; the very clarification for severe means production, transport pollution and the topics defined above. In a placed up-customer society, you are able to stand a gamble of being taken heavily, yet no longer as issues are at present, because of the fact there are too many vested hobbies in holding the status-quo of capitalism.

More Americans are educated compared to the rest of the world. And we tend to think on our own compared to the collective mindset of other countries.
As a Capitalist country, we know that capital investments create the technology that actually reduces pollution rather than depend on the gvmt to develop something that is a compromise that doesn't work well at all.

With the all out blitz by the media and the left pushing their global warming scare scenarios, I for one am surprised it isn't more. When they depend on lock step acceptance of their political psuedo-scientific philosophy, the global warming alarmists must be somewhat frustrated by this since they have really given it their all. Oh well, they will probably keep at it until the next ice age begins.

It couldn't be 63% of the populous is not conserned for the environment, but somewhere around another 37% is in total denial of any environmental problems due to religion, money, job, lack of education, polital oriantation etc. Then there would be a group in the middle that would have answered "I don't know".
Global warming is more than likley going to bight us in the ***, but there are other problems to be had; Over logging, biodiversity extinction, genetically modified foods, toxic consumerism, conspicous consumption, wastefull societies, over population, unsustainablity of society, etc.

The survey you quote is not to the point. Here's one that is:

Americans have a lot on their minds these days, and some issues like Iraq tend to blind them to other things, even if, long run, they're more important..

This is a win-win situation for the liberals. If global warming turns out to be much-ado-about-nothing, they will say "see - we saved the Earth because we warned you ahead of time".
If it turns out to be as bad as they predict, they'll say "see - next time maybe you'll listen to us"

they should ask the people of New Orleans, who suffered the damages from increased power of hurricanes, which is very likely the result of global warming.
