I know it is the drug, since when I stop it I go back to my normal weight. I used to work out with weights, but now I have to really fight hard to keep the weight off. I think she is just "saying" it won't add to weight since she wants me on it. I gained over 40 lbs in 2 years on that stuff. Do you know if I am correct in this drug adding weight?

I have been on effexor for about...wow, I gues it's been like 10yrs. or something. It has never made me gain weight. I've always gained and lost bc of other issues (too much candy in the drawer at work, lol). Maybe you're on another drug that could be making you gain weight? I just haven't experienced what you have with effexor, neither has anyone I know who has taken it.

I don't know personally about effector but I gained 20 POUNDS of weight in the last 1 1/2 MONTHS...I was on Zoloft. My shrink said that that isn't "typical" but also added that it's possible as not everyone has the same effect.

I went off the Zoloft last night so we'll see how it goes over the next couple of weeks. please email me if you want to talk about this..I'm at bazimme@yahoo.com ... Good luck to you.

nope, in 10years of clinical double blind studies, weight gain was one of the side effects that did NOT show up. What I think is happening is the medication is working for you, it is improving your attitude and increasing your appetite thereby. You eat more, so you gain weight. Keep a diary of what you eat over the next month or so and compare it to what you ate before you took the Effexor, I think it will become apparent to you where that weight is coming from.

the drug doesnt add weight over eating does. maybe it makes you lazy so you don't do as much or you just sit around and eat more... thats like saying TV makes me fat cause when I watch it I eat and when I don't watch it I don't eat.

its the overeating that is making you fat..
