One warning before going for state help is that some form of state aid will bring a child support action against the father. It could stir up trouble in some cases. If you go the state aid help, you would want to search in the blue pages of the local telephone book under state government agencies for the Florida Department of Children and Families. You could qualify for food stamps, Medicaid (health care), WIC, child care assistance, and cash benefit. For housing help, you would go to your local housing authority, but in some areas, there is a waiting list for housing help. I recommend going to college and get a degree, and there is help for you to do so because welfare benefits are limited now due to federal law. I am including some free links to locate help and services. Good luck!

You call the local department of human services, listed in the phone book, and then you go to their office. You can also talk to people like the United Way or Salvation Army; they'll tell you about programs you're eligible for.

I'm in Ohio, but here you should start with calling your local health department-they should be able to direct you to the appropriate places.
