A client of mine invited me to his wife's birthday party at their house this Saturday night. I know my client very well, as I have seen him on a daily basis for the past couple of years. Also, we have gone to many corporate events together, such as fishing trips and golf tournaments.

His wife is in her mid forties and all I know about her is that she runs marathons and works from home. I just met her for the first time last week when we all went jogging on a Sunday morning.

My client mentioned that it is just going to me a small event with 15-20 of their close friends. What would be an appropriate gift/card to bring to her birthday party?

A silver photo frame always makes an acceptable gift, it's useful and attractive, without being too personal. Everyone has something they'd like to put in a frame!

Wrapped nicely and teamed with a pretty card , it would be a lovely gift :-)

Cheers :-)

Since you don't know her well, I wouldn't spend more than 15 to 20 dollars or so. Perhaps you can bring her a nice bottle of wine, or a box of chocoaltes. You could also get a nice candle (or candle set), some fancy glasses, or anything generic like that since you don't know her well.

Some people have mentioned gift certificates, while this is a nice idea, it's not something I'd recommend if you are only spending 15-20 bucks. Unfortuantley, it makes you look bad even though you are spending the same amount of money if you bought something else. So I wouldn't get any gift certificates.

I agree you really can't buy her a gift, since you really don't know her, but you can never go wrong with a gift card, maybe to a nice restaurant or a shopping mall. But not for $15, that would not make you look good with your client.

Wine is always appropriate, but perhaps a bit overdone. You might go for something seasonal, so many lovely things available in autumn. Personally, I don't like gift cards and would rather have a donation made in my name. And, it would not be inappropriate to call your client and ask his advice. Enjoy your evening!

Flowers/plant would be nice, or maybe a pretty candle or potpopurri, or even a bottle of wine. I also like the picture frame idea that someone mentioned.

A silk scarf is elegant, useful, always admired and you can nearly always find one to suit whatever price range you're considering. I suggest a neutral-ish color like beige, black, white, brown or navy.

FIRST--I don't know if I'd go---------

THEN--if you MUST--get her a small ($15.) gift card to a sport shop for a new running outfit.........
inside a b'day card.
